Glamour magazine caused quite a stir (and a good one, at that) when they published this photo of 20 year old model Lizzi Miller in their September issue (pg. 194).
“When I was young I really struggled with my body and how it looked because I didn’t understand why my friends were so effortlessly skinny.
“I’ve been that girl, flipping through magazines trying to find just one person who looked a little bit like me. And when I didn’t find it I would start to think there’s something wrong with the way that I looked. When J. Lo and Beyoncé came out and were making curves sexy, I started to accept myself more. It’s funny, but just seeing them look and feel sexy enabled me to do the same.”
And now she’s doing just that for other women! You can read more about her here.
Smiling, happy, beautiful – and perfectly normal, Lizzi is a real inspiration for all women. Kudos to Glamour; I only hope they keep this up. What do you think of this photo?

I LOVE HER!!
See ya, Im off to read more about her
Heya Renee!
I must say I don’t really agree with this photo. Although people are free to do what they like and be happy with who they are, I think it is wise to encourage people to work hard to have healthy fit bodies and not just settle for curvy or even just plain obese.
A fit toned body is just much nicer to look at. People must realise that perfection is not neccessary, but a body like the one in this picture is not really desireable in my opinion.
What do you think Renee?
Have an awesome day hun!

That’s such a happy looking photo and you can see that she isn’t fat just a little poochy. Kudos to her for being so brave and for accepting herself.

I have to agree completely with Diggy on this one. I find this photo very unattractive!!!!! There I’ve said it!!!!
You know what i think about it Renée ^^ To answer Dig, i’m tired of this obligation to practise some sport. Lizzie Miller is far from obesity ! Publishing photos like that don’t make people want to be obese or unhealthy. It may help women who are tired of eating salad because if they eat normally, they put on weight. My best friend is obese. Not because she wants to but because she just can’t slim down. She tried sports, she tried many diets but that just don’t work. She has always been like that and she will ever be. I prefer her to be obese and happy rather than healthy and grumpy (Lizzie has a big real smile here. Do you often see models with a real smile on their faces ? I don’t.. Because a life without chocolate is sad ^^).You may find it unattractive..but I know some men who love that ^^

Thanks for your comments everyone! I’m glad most of us think this is a positive thing Glamour is doing.
Now for my opinion …
Firstly, I don’t think this women is “fat” or obese, she is “curvy”. I agree with you Diggy in that you say the media should promote people to be fit and healthy, however, some people cannot help the ’shape’ that they are. I know a few people who, despite diets, exercising, etc, they still have “curves”. Some people are just not meant to look like fashion models. I think maybe the word you are looking for is “toned”. Haha. So I still think this photo is a great thing – the media showing all shapes and sizes. At the same time, I do agree with you that the media should promote health, so I would go “hmmm” upon images that are unhealthy and extreme – whether its being obese or underweight; although, people who are skinny or overweight aren’t that way because they are anorexics or just “eat too much”, there are normally much greater issues concerning that. So my opinion is: yes to photos of all shapes and sizes that are normal – but no to unhealthy images; too skinny or too big that it risks that person’s health!
I hope I made sense. I am still a little woozy from being sick
Oh hey Krib – we seemed to be typing at the same time! I agree with you
I agree that the media shouldn’t glamorize obesity or being underweight *cough some fashion models*, but this photo is not obese. She seems happy with herself, that’s all that matters!
