Vitamin C doesn’t only cure the common cold – it has many, many skincare and health benefits that we need to know about! Whether it’s a skin care product with Vitamin C as an ingredient or consuming citrus fruits or a vitamins, Vitamin C has many, many benefits:
- It can lighten superficial pigmentation like freckles and melasma.
- It can also suppress melasma production.
- It stimulates collage production and a fantastic anti-aging product.
- Prevents premature wrinkling and scaring.
- Get rid of the free radicals that can damage your skin.
- Vitamin C skincare products can help you repair and prep your skin everyday.
- Exfoliates and cleanses.
- Boosts your immunity system.
- Improves sun damage on skin.
Where can you find Vitamin C products? When I had a facial at Marios Badescu, one of the products used on me was their Vitamin C Serum, which is fantastic, I recommend it! Other brands that carry Vitamin C products are The Body Shop, MD Skincare and John Masters Organics.
As for consuming Vitamin C, fruits that have large amounts of Vitamin C are grapefruit, kiwis, oranges, strawberries, tomatoes and watermelons. Also, I wrote about the many benefits of drinking a glass of lemon water that has exceptional amounts of Vitamin C and health benefits.
What do you think? Would you incorporate Vitamin C into your health and skincare regimens? And if you do already, I’d love to hear! :)

I love to use skin care products with vitamin C in them! The antioxidant benefits are amazing.

So true, Sonja! :)
I think most acne-prone people, somehow, cannot use Vit C topically as it gives them breakouts but I take Vit C orally for overall health and skin benefits!! I hardly fall sick now which is a plus!

Ooh I need to take Vitamin C orally as well, although when I started drinking a Vit C drink, but I got tons of mouth ulcers. :( How do you take it? Is it a pill?
I get ulcers like that too but I found a way that works for me. I tried using a Vitamin C drink once and got ulcers within a week and had to stop. Now I take a 500mg capsule every morning with breakfast and I haven’t had any trouble with ulcers. I’ve been doing it for over a year now. I started experimenting with adding in another 500mg capsule at dinner and still no problems. I think it’s a combination of the lower amount (500mg vs 1000mg in the drink) and the fact that it’s a capsule. Hope that helps!
Hey Beth, thanks so much for your comment! I’m glad to have found someone who had the same problem with me! I think at worse I counted I had 13 mouth ulcers after a week of drinking a Vit C drink. My mouth was on FIRE, it was so painful! :( I also tried a Vitamin C “candy” that also caused ulcers, so I think it will be the pills for me then! :) I agree on what you say – maybe a “shot” of a 1000mg Vit C drink at one time isn’t good for us, hence the ulcers.
Next on my shopping list: Vitamin C PILL of 500mg.
Thanks for your info, Beth, it did help a lot! :)
I’m glad it helped! One other thing is that I buy the Twinlab brand. I tried the generic store brand at GNC once and it gave me bad indigestion (am I really telling the world this on a blog?? :) ). Not sure why because it’s supposed to be just the vitamin c with “no fillers’ even in the store brand but all I know is that for me personally I have to use the twinlab that costs an extra couple of bucks. YMMV

Hi Renee! Great article on vitamin C. I like to use it on everything, tea, mineral water and even on the hair mask I’ve invented for my oily hair. I dunno if you remember but I’ve made a post about that a long time ago and lemon can really do a great job by making my hair to not look so oily. :)
