The Body Shop Body Butters Review

The Body Shop Body Butters are pretty much a cult product, wouldn’t you say? Since I could remember (or when I started reading magazines), they’d always write about The Body Shop’s fantastic body butters. And from the many, many different scents they come in, there’s really something for everyone.

I recently wrote about another body lotion and mentioned that one of the reasons why I liked it so much was because it was non- greasy, didn’t have an overwhelming scent, and didn’t leave on a ‘film’ that would later run on clothes, your bed … you name it. I feel a bit like this post contradicts what I said, but hear me out: if there is one product that I will look past the greasiness, smell and stains, it’s this product.

The Body Butters are very thick, smells quite strong, and can rub on sheets and clothes – the reason being is that they are made to be extremely moisturizing. But that’s why I like them so much; they are ridiculous in terms of moisturizing. (Also, I found a bit of a solution: rub in the lotion for a few minutes – like 5 full minutes – and it lessens the greasy feeling.)

With that being said, I love the Body Butters; but only once in a while.

Like I said earlier, I don’t like the greasy feeling most body lotions produce, but these are so moisturizing that you need them sometimes! I think I use this maybe twice a week at most, when I feel like a ’spa’ treatment in one: the scents are calming, and the thickness of the product makes your really need to rub it in, so it is somewhat like giving yourself a massage – definitely a relaxing experience. The scent fills the room, so it’s important to get a scent that you find really calming.

My favorites so far are Cocoa Butter and Shea butter. I’m on the hunt for the Vanilla version, like I said in my fragrance post that mentioned The Body Shop, they don’t carry the Vanilla range here. I know that scent will be my favorite already! :D

Do you use the body butters from The Body Shop? Which ones are your favorite?

Have you tried the coconut one? It is to DIE for! I too find them a little on the greasy side but I make an exception for that scent. And that’s a good tip about rubbing it in more – must try.

Hey Michelle! No I haven’t tried the coconut one, but I should! Coconuts bring me back to the beach (of course haha) and I loooove the beach! Will def look out for the coconut scent for my next tub! :)

Hi Renee! When it comes to take care of my body I’m 0. Unfortunately I don’t use body butters, body lotions and other products that are designed to help body skin hydration cause I become very lazy only when I have to think that I must stay and apply all that cream on my body. All the products that I bought (most of them because they smell divine) are staying quietly on my desk wondering when I’m going to use them.

Hehe Tavia you sound like me… I’m VERY lazy too. But I guess these past few nights I like to relax and applying it is relaxing, too! Haha maybe you can put a bottle next to your bed so before you sleep you can remember! That’s what I do :)

I used the Cocoa Butter before and I kind of hated the feeling it gave. It was really thick and hard to rub in! I still prefer their body lotion, although i’m currently using the vaseline one. But the scent it has is pretty delicious, I must say.

Oh I like Vaseline’s stuff too! I;m sorry these body butters didn’t work for you though; I do agree they are really thick, but I also find the ridiculous moisture you get is worth it, just really need to rub it in properly :-P

I love the Brazil Nut one! If you don’t like the greasy feeling, try applying it when your skin is damp. I know it sounds a little weird since oils don’t mix with water, but it really works. I do it every night when applying olive oil on my face; it’s my night-time moisturizer!

Hey Tammy :)

Doesn’t sound weird at all! I heard that applying body lotion to damp skin makes the product ‘work’ better, though I don’t know the explaination behind it. Hmm… I tink someone gave me an ida for Beauty Tip of the Week ;) Don’t worry, I will credit you!

Oh wow, you use pure olive oil on your face? I’ve always been scared to try natural oils! Is it good? Do you break out? Haha so many questions :-P

I’ve used the raspberry one. and it smelled so good.
I’m now using the Vitamin E one and it is works insanely well. I live in Australia and the climate is pretty dry and i find it works really well for me.
Just one thing i do when i don’t want that greasy feeling is to apply it right after i come out of the shower so i still have some water on my legs (or wherever i’m moisturising).
I use less but the water helps spread it lightly all over. I then pat dry. It works really well except it doesn’t moisturise as much, but it’s still pretty good. And no greasy feeling.

Hey Emma, thanks for your tips! Some girls above also mentioned to apply it after the shower when your skin is still wet, so I’ll take your word for it, I’ll try it out!

I can imagine how dry it is in Australia, if you want to try out one that’s also insanely moisturizing I would recommend the Shea butter – even more moisturizing than the Cocoa butter I’m using, only thing is that it doesn’t smell too nice :(

I live in Australia most of the time so the body butter is perfect, i use it as much as two times a day.. But when im in Singapore for holidays, where the weather is terribly humid I think the body lotion is a better choice.. they come in the same smells as well.. The morrocan rose range of body milk has a gorgeous smell and lightweight as welll.. so you could try that out :)

Oh is Morrocan Rose a permanent range? Because I remember seeing it once it first launched but now no sign of it :( Which part of Aus are you in? :)

Yes Morrocan Rose is a permanent range… If you don’t see it i think its because its sold out.. But not everyone I know likes it.. Unfortunately im a sucker for EVERYTHING that says rose.. Moisturizer, perfume, shower gel.. you name it I have it in a rose scent.. :D Im currently doing my degree in perth.. How about you? Do you live in Aus as well?

You’re like me with Vanilla! I like anything vanilla :)

Nah, I live in Singapore but I’m in an Aussie uni, from Adelaide. I’ve been to Perth though, it’s very close to Singapore! What are you studying? :)
