The Body Shop Baked to Last Collection Review

Random fact about myself: If I see a cupcake, I must eat it. So with The Body Shop’s latest collection very beautifully done up to look like a cupcake stand… I couldn’t resist.

Baked makeup is not new, but The Body Shop has come up with a range that is sure to have you itching for one of their goodies. The Baked to Last collection is handmade in Italy by local artisans and baked in small batches for 24 hours, to ensure that the pigments are bound together to create a smooth sheen of color. This collection also boasts strong pigments that are long lasting, filled with ingredients such as Community Trade organic oil olive from Italy and marula oil form Namibia.

I had seen the beautiful images for this collection on some other blogs beforehand, so I was excited when I was invited for a nice cozy afternoon at The Body Shop where TBS introduced the latest collection. I was allowed to try out some of the makeup from the new collection, and I must say I already have some favorites. I even got a makeover with products from the new collection, so I could see first hand how the products worked. (Unfortunately, I have no pictures to show you – this was right before I went to Phuket and I accidently wiped out my memory card before my flight, thinking I’d make room for holiday pics. I had totally forgotten about all the pictures inside, which also included some of my beloved late pet. :( Ugh!)

Anyway. The Baked to Last collection offers 8 eyeshadow pans, each with two colors – a lid color and a deeper color for the outer corners or for eye-lining. It can be used dry or wet, depending on your desired intensity. I tried out the deepest color, Jade, a gorgeous deep green/ turquoise. It reminds me of a mermaid and I think it especially looks great on those with deeper colored eyes – it really made my brown eyes pop! The pigmentation was also good and it has a nice shimmer that’s not too out there (I normally cannot stand shimmer) and I’ve used the eyeshadow wet as a eyeliner and the color is so intense it looks like liquid eyeliner. Good enough for me, you know I adore eyeliner. ;)

The star product for me, though, is the bronzer. I’ve already heard that the bronzer is selling out fast here in Singapore, and I can understand why: It’s the best bronzer I’ve ever used. Granted, I’ve not tried that many bronzers in the past, but they all seemed to go on a bit muddy – I cannot stand bronzers that go on so dark that it looks like you have a stripe of mud across your face! I tried the lighter color, Warm Glow, and I would highly, highly recommend it. It gives a sun-kissed look and has a few specks of highlighter and pink mixed into the blush, so it really gives a sun-kissed, slight shimmer tan. However, if you want something a bit more darker, try Golden Bronze. (Rumor has it Warm Glow is a dupe for a limited edition MAC blush, although I’m not too sure about the exact name.)

Overall, I had a good impression on the collection. I think that the pigments and the cupcake campaign is too cute not to go check out, and the products are also really good. Especially the bronzer – it’s safe to say it has a permanent place in my makeup bag. Also, there are SO many new makeup stuff coming from The Body Shop that it’s really worth going to the store and taking a look. I’ve used some makeup from TBS years ago in highschool and it’s amazing to see how much the collection has grown! There’s the Delipcious lip color range (which I loved), Baked to Last makeup collection, and even a new mascara called Big & Curvy… so there are lots of makeup goodies from The Body Shop this season!

Have you tried any from the Baked to Last makeup collection? What do you think of The Body Shop’s makeup products in general?

I love it when my readers help each other out! :) Thanks, Emma!

Ilyana, I’m sure it should be out in any TBS shops, from what I know they seem to launch every product to all their international markets…! The blushes I was told is only available September onwards in Singapore, so it might be around that time in Aus, too?
