Lancôme

Most of my past mascara reviews have all talked about how great there were for volume and drama – but what about when you just want a natural, lengthening look? I personally love volume, but I do have a favorite daytime-natural-looking mascara for everyday wear…

Enter L’Extreme by Lancôme. I bought this ages ago (before my love affair with it’s brother, Virtuôse) because I read that the whole world says that Lancôme mascaras are the best. I did my research and found some great reviews on the mascara, so off I went!

Instant Extensions Lenghtening Mascara. Exclusive Fibrestretch™ formula with supple fibers extends lashes to the extreme. Patented extreme lash brush weaves on lash extensions. No smudging. No clumping. Just extreme length and ultra-long waterproof wear.

First of all, don’t expect any volume with this thing – the formula is very inky, which normally means the mascara only has lengthening properties.

Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created the beautiful look for Angelina Jolie and gave us an exclusive glimpse on how to recreate it. Angelina looked ravishing (as usual!) in a sparkling, silver Versace floor-length gown.

All products by Lancôme:

  • Artliner in Noir
  • Courbe Virtuôse Mascara in Black (Good choice! My fave.) and the vibrating Ôscillation Mascara in Black
  • Color Design Blush in Model Mocha
  • Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling

The result? Defined beautiful eyes, soft blush, and a pale pink, glossy pout for her famous lips!

I love this look. Simple and elegant. I am beginning to think she is one of my favorite beauty icons! Seems like her hair was her usual dark, romantic waves, that I wrote about some time ago. (Click here for my post to get the look!)

What do you think about her Golden Globes look?

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is having a great 2009 so far – I am very excited for the new year; and for whatever the future holds!

I can honestly say 2008 was a good year. I am so blessed and just have the most wonderful people around me. I am so happy I started Beauty Fool and all the great ladies I’ve met through my site :-)

Anyways … before I get too sappy, 2008 was a great year beauty-wise as well! I found lots of new products that have already become staples in my beauty routine and definite ‘it’ products for me.

In no particular order, here are my best beauty finds in 2008!:

  • Redken Extreme Anti-Snap – I sang praises for it on my review of it here, but it really is great. While there are many leave in conditioners out there, I find Anti-Snap doesn’t weight the hair at all, and I can feel a difference in my hair within seconds. Also, the smell is just wonderful. It’s a little on the expensive side, but this lasts for quite a while so I find it is well worth it.
  • Lancôme Virtuôse Mascara – I’ve always loved Lancome mascaras and this one is no different! One gripe I have about it is that once the tube starts to dry out a bit (after 2 months or so) the mascara is very dry and doesn’t have the glossy, true-black color it normally has when the product is new. Other reasons why I love it? Read my review!
  • L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray – This is by far a great beauty find. I wrote a post about it here, and how it is used by stylists all over the world – and I understand why. It is perfect, that’s all there is to say!
  • Chanel La Ligne Professional Duo Eyeliner – This was a funny product I stumbled upon. It was my famous impulse buy of 2008, which turned out to be great. Wet or dry, this eyeliner can create a daytime, natural look, to dark, deep dramatic eyes. They just came out with a brown version of it, too.
  • Bond No. 9 Chinatown Fragrance – I decided to add this one on the list purely because it was nothing I ever smelt before! It is very strange; but in a good way. My classmates were telling me how sexy it smelt, haha! You can read my review here.

What are some of your best beauty finds you found in 2008? I’d love to hear what everyone’s best finds were!

Consumer Reports is a reputable publication that is trusted by millions of consumers in the US, and for their January 2009 issue, they rated the best washable black mascaras in the market today, with Lancôme Définicils coming in at number one!

A panel of 34 staff members used 16 washable black mascaras over six weeks, then rated each on overall performance, ease of application, brush, look on lashes, durability, and ease of removal.

Top-rated was a department-store brand, Lancôme Définicils.

Several other very good mascaras that raters liked are sold in drugstores:

  • Max Factor Lash Perfection Volume Couture,
  • Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume,
  • Cover Girl VolumeExact,
  • L’Oréal Telescopic Clean Definition & Lengthening.

And what were the lowest-rated mascaras?

Testers judged the lowest-rated mascaras, Bare Escentuals Big Tease and Revlon 3D Extreme, especially difficult to apply and remove, and they disliked their brushes. Spinlash, a battery-operated spinning wand, earned praise from a couple of panelists, but others said it left clumps.

Read more here.

Définicils has also ‘won’ the Allure Best of Beauty Hall of Fame, Reader Choice Award, and Glam Beauty Award. Nice! I haven’t tried Définicils yet, though I’ve used Virtuôse (review here!), Hypnôse and L’Extreme and have loved them all so I will have to check it out!

Does anyone agree with their choice? What about the lowest rated mascaras? I can agree with Revlon – I’ve always hated their weird mascara wands!

Bring out your inner Goth this November!

Black lipstick has been all over the fall runways and magazine editorials, making it the new must-have trend for fall. (YSL has also released their version of a black lipgloss, YSL Gloss Pur Black.)

However, apart from Halloween, it’s pretty hard to pull off in real life.

Lancôme has taken a chance and will release a limited 500 sets of Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black, a sheer black colored lip gloss. They will also release Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red, inspired by the redness of a Christian Louboutin shoe.

This lip set is created by Aaron de May, Lancôme’s new artistic director for makeup.

Lancôme’s latest mascara, Virtuôse, is slowly becoming my favorite mascara. I’ve always loved Lancôme mascaras, so when I heard about this, I had to get off my butt and buy one!

Lancôme really is becoming the first in innovation with mascaras! First Fatale, then Virtouse, and recently the vibrating Ôscillation Mascara! I can’t keep up, but I’m loving it.

Virtouse is a Lancôme first, with its CurlGuard formula which promises to “lengthen and hold a divine lash curve for 12 hours.” Its curved KeepCurl brush “provides an outstanding eyelash curler effect.” And it’s long lasting formula is “virtually smudge proof, tear proof and easily removable.”

I basically agree with what was all said. Having completely straight eyelashes that I had given up on (and had stopped using an eyelash curler cause of it), I decided to do the full works – eyelash curler, then apply Virtuôse. I was very pleased with the results – the brush really lifted my lashes and curled it well, and amazingly enough most of my eyelashes actually budged and held a curl – a very big curl, as well.

After 12 hours I did have a bit of smudging, but before that the mascara was pretty much perfect – curled, nicely defined, no clumps and my lashes looked naturally long and curled.

Another winning mascara from Lancôme in my books (I also really love L’Extreme) - any thoughts on Virtuose?
