Suggestion box – what do YOU want?

Now that it’s December (wooooohoooo), 2010 is drawing closer and closer to us. Which means a brand new year for all of us – even Beauty Fool!

I want to have this post up and running while I take a little Christmas break to collect your thoughts and suggestions for BF.

Some questions I’m interested in for feedback are…

  • What topics would you like to see more of?
  • What type of posts are your favorites?
  • What posts do you like the least?
  • What do you think of the design? Does it give you a headache or does it bore you? Is navigating around BF easy or a real struggle?
  • Someone suggested through e-mail about a forum/message board area of some sorts. Would you be interested in that? Would you like more community based features, and if so, any ideas?
  • What do you think of me as a blogger? Are there any areas you would like me to improve in? (I welcome all constructive cristism but I do have feelings, play nice!)

So many questions! I know it’s been a bit quiet this month but December this year is extra stressful for some reason - more on that later. I’ve written a ton of posts that I want to save for the new year, as well as some exciting news to share!

Basically with this post I’d like to know how you think BF is going and if you have any feedback and suggestions so we can start 2010 of with a BANG! Feel free to write about anything you want, it doesn’t have to be only the questions I asked above. Thanks so much in advance and I’ll speak to you soon! Happy holidays everyone. :)

Hey Cata – thanks so much. I really worked on my Makeup 101 series so it’s great to know it was helpful. I’ll try to come up with more series posts, if you have any ideas as well, do let me know! :)

I’m also SUPER happy you like my little anecdotes in my posts, I always feel like I talk too much, so it’s great that it gives you some “hope” that if I can do it, you can too! Haha.

Happy Xmas to you too :D

Hmm, this could take a while. No, I’m totally kidding!
In general, I like the topics you adress, from reviews to inspirational to self esteem posts :) This blog really is a lifestyle blog, I feel, and I like it like that. I have the feeling it shows some of your personality through (as in: you’re actually interested in the blogposts you put on here).
I don’t really have any favorites, but I like things like: how to get fab lashes, how to keep your skin healthy, how do I get rid of blackheads (I’m still waiting for your egg white mask review :p),…
I like the design. It’s nice and clean. Maybe you could play with colors a bit (like change the background of the boxes into a light color or put a frame around them, just brainstorming here) to change it up, if you’d like to. I like the header because it’s simple, but I think it could use a little more attention. Take it out for some ice cream, y’ know, treat it like a lady. Maybe redesign it? Ask your readers for designs? …
I would like a community board, but I also know from experience it’s going to be deserted if you don’t have enough visitors (I don’t know how many a day you have). You could just give a try and start some of your own topics and see how that works out for you.
I think you’re great writer, Renee. You’re really funny. Your posts always make me laugh. I wouldn’t change anything about that, honestly :)

Off the top of my head, I would maybe suggest more pictures. E.g. it would be nice to see a before/after picture if you review a mascara. Images speak louder than words, right? I’m also a great fan of looks — but if you’re not into that or if that’s not your intention, then please… don’t. I like this blog the way it is, really.
Hmm. Can’t really think of anything. This blog is uncluttered and easy to navigate — unlike my room at the moment — you did a great job with it.

Hope this helps! Merry Christmas!!

Hey Rox!

First of all – I really appreciate you taking the time to really add in your thoughts! Thank you so much.

I too agree on the design front, and if you’ve noticed the past two days I’ve started to “clean” it up a bit – my idea is to still keep it simple and chic (that’s the look I like, and hopefully that’s the look that translate!) but as some of your requests, I will add more color and much more images – I agree, I think it really needs it, thanks so much for the suggestion! Also, I love the whole “treat her like a lady” comment – you’re hilarious! :D I am currently designing a new header and really hope you’ll like it!

And yeah, I will most definitely add personal photos on reviews and have some plans on some tutorials, so do look out for them! Tutorials may be a little sparse though, as my “true love” is writing. I’m not the best at application techniques (hence the name beauty “fool” haha) but what I do know, I am more than happy to share! :)

Thank you so so much for commenting that you feel this blog is a reflection of my personality – I write like how I would speak to my friends, and like I wrote above to Cata, I was a little hesitant to sharing my personal stories, “jargon” and info, etc. I just thought everyone would find it so boring, so I’m beyond glad you like it. It’s totally “me” and I would’ve been so upset if I had some feedback that I would have to ‘tone it down’ or something like that. So, my writing stays! Thanks so much! :)

As for a forum – I agree 100%. I think though, with communities, the preference is to have 10 people really active, than 100 people who barely say anything. I think I will go ahead with a message board rather than a forum – boards are different than a forum in a sense it’s more casual. Structured forums are hard to navigate, “cliques” form, etc, and I don’t want any nastiness. My idea for a message board is just for anyone who has something to say, whether it’s to share a new product they love, a question they want to ask that they can’t in the comments section, etc. With that being said, it’s definitely going to happen, but like you said I might wait awhile until I know there will actually be people on it!

Anyway I better end here, and you better clean that room! Again Roxanne, I appreciate your comments and am so happy to have met you. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and we shall talk soon! :D

Hi Renee!

You’re welcome and I hope it helped you! I’ve always been taught being specific is way better than just saying “it’s good”, I didn’t want you to think I was nitpicking or anything though!

I’m already liking the changes you’ve made :) Looking forward to the message board too! If there’s ANYTHING I can do to help you, just let me know :)

Happy Beauty Foolidays!

Hey Rox! :)

Don’t be silly! I asked for suggestions and you gave them – you weren’t being nit picky at all! I really appreciate all the feedback you gave, as I was hoping to get really specific details so that I can make Beauty Fool an enjoyable and better place. So thank you once again. :)

And I’m SO glad you like the new changes … ’cause I LOVE it. I feel it’s more “me” too, I love simplistic designs and I searched high and low online for the perfect font – I was looking for a tall and thin font, which I’m so happy I found! :) I think I’m done for now, unless I find something really odd then I’ll tweak somemore.

Thanks for your offer to help! I’ll let you know if I need anything but I think you’ve done more than enough with your feedback! Many many thanks and happy beauty foolidays to you too! Haha I love it! :D :D

you as a writer, it’s amazing! topics on inner as well as outer beauty are touched on nicely. The layout’s kind to the eyes unlike other blogs where words are tiny and you stop visiting their blogs.

you might wanna add a search bar? it’ll be of so much help to look for home remedies, How-To’s etc.

Merry X’mas

Hey Mabs – Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much for your input and your kind words :) I’m glad you are happy with the topics and the layout – the topics will def stay the same (I’m just getting started) but I am going to tweak the layout a bit, but don’t worry, it’ll still be the same format as the old one so it will still be simple.

And I just added a more prominent search bar. I also made it more visible with a header – I actually had a search bar but I guess it was hidden! Thanks for the tip, I hope you like it :)

it’s easy to navigate the site, but the layout does get to be boring sometimes. i’m not sure if it’s a good idea to keep it or display more images/colors on it because it might cause the webpage to lag. to be honest, when i open my blog roll in new tabs, this page opens quite promptly!

I hope for more how-to’s, especially eyeshadow, since I suck at it big time!

Hey Sunmom, thanks for your feedback!

I’m glad that the site is easy to navigate, that is one of my first concerns when designing. I am going to tweak it abit so it’s more “alive” and less boring haha, so I’m thinking images and more colors. I hope you like it! Oh, and that’s great to know that my site loads quickly, phew.

And OK – more eyeshadow! :)

Merry Christmas, Sunmom, thanks for your comment :D

I LOVE your inspirational/self-esteem post. It’s pretty hard to come across those articles on beauty blogs, I’ve found; they’re mostly exclusively reviews and tutorials.

You’re still doing a great job though! Your beauty tips are cute little tips I find really helpful. The layout is nice–it’s very clean and makes your articles really easy to read.

Hey Lorlori, yay! Thanks so much, I’m glad you like the site the way it is! It will be completely the same but I will be tweaking the design abit and ‘up’ the amp on photos so it’s more helpful and interesting. :)

Oh and yes, message board will be coming, just not so sure when, though.LIke I told Roxanne above, I think I may wait for a bit, but it will definitely happen, it’s a chance for all of us to chat and help each other out more! :)

Merry Christmas, Lorlori! Hope you have a great one :D
