I very briefly mentioned that I am more interested in Bobbi Brown’s Makeup Manual than I did with Sephora’s beauty book, which came out earlier this year.
However, one of my friends got it for her birthday last month, and she very kindly lend it to me for a while… so I got an even closer look than when I scanned through it at the bookstore!
In Sephora: The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority, fashion and beauty journalist and former Sephora beauty editor Melissa Schweiger personally introduces the people behind some of your favorite brands and fills this gorgeous book with the beauty secrets usually reserved for insiders.
Each chapter is designed to mimic a Sephora store’s “try everything” vibe while revealing the finest beauty tips and tricks for getting creative with cosmetics. From an A-to-Z glossary of terms and ingredients and a shopping guide to the best products, to detailed explanations of how to properly use cosmetic tools, Sephora is the complete beauty package that no woman will want to be without.
Apart from the many, many product recommendations (obviously, I wouldn’t not expect it!) there are tons of tips on how to do the makeup basics, skincare topics, interviews with the many creators of the brands they carry, and general information on tools, ingredients, and how to find your skin type.
Overall, I don’t mind this book, but some of the chapters may not be of interest to those who are just buying it to improve their makeup skills or general knowledge. Everything is very basic, and I honestly cannot really trust their product recommendations, because obviously it’s the brand’s the sell.
For my friend who received this as a birthday gift, it was perfect! She is very new to makeup and her knowledge is very little right now, so the book helped her greatly. I think for people like me (those in-between, who know the basics; yet aren’t experts) would probably need something more. But this is perfect for beginners.
Sephora: The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority is US$21 and below at Amazon.

Hello,
I recommend the newest book by Bobbi Brown, it’s called ‘The Make-up Manual’. I prefer it to the book from Sephora -’In Sephora: The Ultimate Guide to Makeup, Skin, and Hair from the Beauty Authority’- I feel that this book just scratches the surface in comparison.
