Quick Tip to Eliminate Frizz in the Heat, Humid Weather

June 29, 2009   in Hair, How To/Tips

This post is part of my Summer Beauty Tips Series, a collection of posts for the summer season. You can read the rest of the series here.

Ladies, I have two words for you: coconut oil. It’s really fantastic. I gave this tip to my mom since she complains about frizz all the time, and she hasn’t looked back since. It really is great!

However, there are a few cons – don’t overdo it, or your hair can look extremely greasy that needs to be washed out (even my beloved dry shampoo doesn’t help!). A little drop of it is enough (a little more for your depending on your hair length and thickness). Rub your palms together to spread the oil and just distribute it to the frizziest part of your hair. Viola!

Also, it works both ways, but the best way I’ve found is when you apply the coconut oil to wet hair, rather than dry.

If anyone has any other tips to control frizz, please tell. I haven’t tried many any anti-frizz products, because I’ve found success in coconut oil so I haven’t been looking. I’d love to see what you think and what you use to eliminate frizz.

I’ve tried the coconut-oil remedy before too. But unfortunately, it’s wayyyyy too oily for my hair. Didn’t turn out that well. :(
Now, for frizz and to tame my hair, I turn to Bed Head’s Control Freak serum. Not oily at all, and it gives your hair shine (that doesn’t look like oily at all). In addition to that, it smells good too! :D Pineapple! Hehe.

Sze Ling - Aw sucks it didn’t work out for you! I put VERY little, that thing is so oily! I also can’t really stand the smell but it works for me so I’ll tolerate it :P

What’s your hair ‘type’ by the way?

They say you shouldn’t rub your hair dry since that’s what mostly creates the fizz. And I condition my hair pretty much everyday and I see/feel a huge difference than when I didn’t.

Mary – Ooh, what conditioner do you use? I don’t get frizz, but my hair is So flat, so coconut oil is a conditioner for me (great one too!). Kinda wish I would get frizz, at least it means you have volume! haha :P

haha BE CAREFUL what you wish for. I’ve got frizz, alright… I dread summer because that’s when my hair takes on a life of its own. It transforms from nice and manageable inside to a pyramid out.

As for the conditioner, I love to alternate between Alba Botanicals in Honeydew and Bath and Body Works Volumizing conditioner in whatever scent, this stuff is just sooo good.

AMLA OIL!

This stuff is amazing. You can purchase at any Indian/South Asian grocery store. There are however different companies who make it, I use DABUR AMLA OIL.

Take a little bit in your palm, rub it into your hair starting from the tips to the roots. Leave it on for an hour or so and wash it out with shampoo and follow with some conditioner. Word of warning though: the smell is quite strong, so I would recommend doing this on a Sunday morning when you have nothing else to do and don’t mind stinking up your house…lol

Good luck!

Hey Sindy, thanks! I never heard of Alma oil, will have to research. I use the Dabur coconut oil, and I love it – I am beginning to think the brand make great hair products?! :D

Amla and coconut oil are staples of any South Asian hair regime. Just keep using whatever you use and you’ll be fine!

I’ve seen Dabur products all over the place, so I’m assuming they are quite popular too…hehe

Yeah! And Asians have beautiful hair, so we should be following their hair regime! haha. I’ll be looking out for Alma, in the mean time I am loving the Aussie conditioner I wrote about a few days back, highly recommend it! :)
