in Hair,How To/Tips

A reader recently asked me (hello Emma!) whether I would do a post on hair updos, which I am very happy to say I have tons of experience on – that’s all I do to my hair! I researched some simple ones, some classic ones, something for everyone. Hope you enjoy! :)

Kristen Stewart

I start with Kristen Stewart not because I think I love her, but because this is the style I am seriously doing on my hair everyday! This style is SO simple to do:

  1. Make sure your hair is at least 2 days unwashed. This is a messy style, so the dirtier, the better!
  2. Spray on some dry shampoo to soak up the greasy bits and to give a little volume.
  3. Turn your head upside down, and gather all your hair in a low ponytail and tie it. Make sure that on your crown, there is no hair parting – it should all look pulled back together.
  4. Take your pony tail and backcomb all of your ponytail. It should look like a big, poofy mess.
  5. Take the tail (right at the end) of this poofy ponytail, grab it firmly, and tightly aim for the base of your ponytail (where the rubberband is) and roll around, creating a bun.
  6. Secure with as many bobby pins as possible.
  7. To create a messy look, take a rat-tail comb and just mess up the crown area by combing random areas.
  8. Set with hairspray.

Kate Beckinsale

  1. Pretty much the same as Kristen’s above, minus Step 3. Instead, when gathering your hair into a bun, leave a lot of loose bits in the front. (This hairstyle will work create for those who has a layered haircut.
  2. Take a curling tong and curl the loose bits.
  3. Set with hairspray.

Angelina Jolie

  1. I absolutely love this style but it takes a lot of practice and time to do. First, use a curling tong all over your hair if you don’t have slight waves already.
  2. Make a high bun, and leave out a lot of bits (just like Kate Beckinsale’s above). Recurl those loose ends to make it even more curly, and take pieces at a time and pin them up in big Os around the bun. Don’t worry about the mess!
  3. Pull out a few pieces near your cheekbones and ears to give a very casual look.
  4. Set with hairspray.

Megan Fox

  1. For a sleek updo, try this style by Megan Fox. Take clean hair and apply serum (although I find a bit of coconut oil will do wonders too!) and make your hair sleek and smooth.
  2. Gather your hair into a mid-bun, and tie it up with a thin rubberband. Next, apply serum to the ponytail so it is sleek as well. Once again, gather it around the base of the ponytail, creating a very tight, smooth bun.

Kim Kardashian

  1. Make a center part, and pull hair to one corner, to a side ponytail.
  2. Tie the ponytail, then use a curling tong on the ponytail so it’s curly.
  3. Take random bits of the curly bits and pin them around the base of the ponytail to create a bun.
  4. Set with hairspray.

Anne Hathaway

  1. Basically the same as the tight buns above, but instead with a deep side part. This makes your bun look very ‘formal’. Don’t keep it too tight though – as you can see, Anne still has a but of volume at her crown and hair parting. You can create some volume but teasing your hair prior to making your side part.
  2. Set with hairspray.

Great tips Renee! As for the first 3 styles, I didn’t know you have to go through so much trouble just to look messy!!!! :)

Thanks so much, Ruth. Glad to be of help!

And yes, it is a lot of trouble but once you get the hang of it you can do it in 2 minutes, try it out sometime! :)
