After my beloved Lancome Virtouse tube started to dry out, I decided the other day to buy Diorshow Blackout since I used to wear Diorshow and didn’t mind it, and just wanted a bit of a change. Also, the whole “From the catwalks to you” definitely made me want to try it out!
I’ve used Diorshow maybe 2 years ago then switched to Lancome mascaras that I dearly love, but I didn’t switch because I didn’t like Diorshow – just wanted a change and then forgot about it, I guess! I’m glad I’m back though!
Blackout is an “intense deep kohl black shade that glides on smoothly, and draws out every last lash to show-stopping lengths.”
Blackout definitely delivered the darkest, deepest black I’ve ever since, and like Diorshow the volumizing and lengthening properties are excellent. The formula, like its original, doesn’t smudge or flake, and it holds a curl very well – one thing I’m wondering is why did they change the brush? This brush is as large as Diorshow, but for some reason the bristles are spaced out so much, it clumps up after one layer of application. Two or three layers and you’re asking for a clumping mess!
If they changed the brush to the original, this would definitely be “THE” mascara. Other than that, I do like Blackout very much and would repurchase, but the brush – terrible!
So much for being “anonymous”… I guess my cover is blown! Oh well, it’s time to come out of hiding.
I’ve been talking to Sophie from Beautynomics for about 2 years when I had my old beauty site, and recently started again when I made a new beauty site, Beauty Fool (long story). So when she told me she was coming down to my part of the planet, of course we had to finally meet!

(I stole the picture above from Sophie! Here we are with MAC makeup artists Sara and Kevin. And what’s with my smirk?!).
Sophie is so sweet, and a true makeup addict. I watched her spend all her hard earned cash on items from Stila, M.A.C…. I can’t remember the rest, there were so many brands we looked at!
You can read all about her experience here, and view her beauty loot here! (She really says it all better than me.)

My poor 7 year old self used to suffer every 6 months – my mother would take me to the hairdressers and she would cut the ugliest bob in all existence. I still look back at old photos and cringe … If only I knew that 12 years later, it would be in fashion!
The bob haircut first made its debut in the 1920s, and no one knew it would revolutionize the way women wear their hair forever. Today, ‘the bob’ haircut has been ushered back into the limelight by stars such as Rhianna, Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes, and newly “bobbed” celebrity Hayden Panettiere and Anne Hathaway, which I love!
However, these celebrities are not actually snipping their hair off – many of the newly ‘bobbed’ celebs (not necessarily the ones listed above) are faking it. They are wearing wigs, extensions, and hairpieces, which allow them to have this fashionable cut only on the days they want it. That’s why one day they’re sporting the bob and the next day they are sporting mermaid locks. Now you can do the same!

With Extensions:
If your hair is long, go short in seconds without the commitment of a haircut with these tricks:
- Jessica Simpson’s and her hairstylist Ken Paves hair extension line, HairDo has a 10″ Straight Clip-In Extension that recreates your back hair line to bring strands from long to short in a flash (your natural hair simply tucks under the extension). The 10″ extension sits on the shoulder for a sleek bob style. Available in 16 multi-tone shades.
- Raquel Welch Sheer Indulgence Influence Wig. The “Influence” Raquel Welch wig hangs just below the chin and is suitable for oval, round, diamond and heart shaped faces. Its top adds parting versatility, so you can choose a center part one day and a side part the next. Available in 27 shades.
With Styling Tricks:
I don’t know how many of you would dare wear a wig, but I think the extensions sound like a good idea. Another way to fake a bob, if you have medium/long hair:
- Gather your hair in a low ponytail.
- Visualize how long you want your fake bob to be, pull your hair higher up for a shorter bob, lower for a longer one.
- Clip the rest of your hair towards your crown, so it is not seen from the front.
- Instant fake bob!
So go ahead and experiement!
What do you think of this latest celebrity trend? Will you be sporting a bob anytime soon? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Supermodel Beverly Johnson once said, “It’s really important in today’s look, [to] have a mouth. If you don’t have it by birth, get it.”
What craziness!
Cosmetics today make it very easy to fake full, lush lips – from lip liners, lip plumpers, etc. I personally don’t think that lip plumpers do anything special, but I do think they are a better version of a normal lip gloss – the formula’s are thicker and the tingling makes you pout more!
One of my favorite lip plump would be Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips (my other is Clinique’s Full Potential Lips).

Exactly one week ago, Lancôme hosted a special screening of Get Smart with their latest ambassadress (and face of fragrance Magnifique, out in August) Anne Hathaway at the private Core Club in New York City.
The screening benefited the Lollipop Theater Network, a charitable organization which Anne is highly involved with. The Lollipop Theater Network provides first-run movies, and volunteers like Anne bring cheer to children with serious illnesses who sadly miss seeing these films in the theater due to their long hospital stays.
What a great charity! Anne sported such simple yet stunning makeup, and showed off her new bob haircut that everyone’s been talking about (and wants)!
Celebrity makeup artist Julie Harris did Anne’s makeup for the screening, and gave us the scoop on how to recreate the look:
- First, she used Lancôme black liquid Artliner on the upper lash line to make Anne’s eyes pop and added a few coats of Lancôme Hypnôse mascara, giving her lashes a beautiful boost of volume and length. I approve of Hypnôse!
- Julie added just a touch of color to the apples of the cheeks with Giorgio Armani Sheer Cream Blush #2.
- She set the look by dusting Laura Mercier translucent powder all over Anne’s face.
- Julie opted for a soft neutral colored pout and finished the look with Lancôme Color Design Lipcolor in B-List.
There you have it…. This makeup is simple and beautiful, and can pretty much be done in 15 minutes! Now where’s our movie screening to go to?!

I was reading a story online about bangs and how tons of celebrities are gradually growing theirs out, so I thought I’d write about my own experience with them, and offer help for those who had an experience like mine.
Earlier in January, my best friend and I were chatting on web cam (she’s in London for college) when we decided right then and there that we had to get bangs.
We obviously need to find better things to do online, because she started cutting her hair in front of me, (that daredevil!) while I watched in horror. In the end, however, it turned out really well! So well that the next day I rushed to my beloved hairdresser and asked for bangs; I couldn’t wait!
While my friend loved hers, I loved mine for about 3 hours and then got over it – I realized that it looked very weird with my face shape, so I wanted to grow them out as soon as possible. (For some tips what type of bangs suit your face shape, check out my post The Best Type of Bangs/Fringe for Your Face Shape.)
Along the way, I read countless ‘tips’ on how to grow them out, but these are the only ones that I found useful:
- Hair Accessories. Luckily for me, I usually tie/clip my hair up 95% of the time, so the bangs didn’t bother me as much as it would for some. Try wearing hair bands, head scarves, bobby pins, fancy clips with butterflies on them, whatever floats your boat! Experiment to see what suits you.
Get a haircut. Once your bangs/fringe has gone past your eyebrows, go to your hairstylist and ask her to cut it into a side fringe, so that it’s easier to grow out and will blend easier into your hairstyle. Plus, once it’s grown out even more, you can always sweep it behind your ear. You can see what I mean with this photo of Jessica Alba – her bangs have grown out a little bit, and now she is parting her bangs in the center and blow-drying them to the opposite sides. After somemore time, it will slowly grow out, where she can get a trim and some layers to blend in her grown out bangs.
- Time. I hate to say it, but I read tons of ‘ways’ to grow them out, from taking hair supplements, standing upside down few times a day (seriously!), etc, and to be honest, I don’t see how that would speed up hair growth. Bangs/fringes take a full 6 months to grow out, so be patient, and focus on something else!
That’s my advice on growing your bangs out. I think bangs done right are really stylish and fashionable, but I’ve learnt my lesson – they are not for me!
Does anyone else have any tips on growing out bangs?
Bésame Cosmetic’s Enriched Lip Glazes are slowly becoming a staple in my handbag. I’ve mentioned earlier that I don’t necessarily like lip gloss because they are so sticky and reapplying is rather annoying, but these Lip Glazes are almost worth all that, they simply look beautiful!
Bésame’s Enriched Lip Glazes contain vitamins A, C, E, and heals and protects lips with aloe vera, macadamia nut extract and sweet almond oil. The lip gloss is amazing for moisturizing, and gives a hint of color, so it’s not over the top (there are other colors, like Chocolate and Red Berry, that I’m sure gives more color for darker skin tones), but since I’m pretty fair, lighter colors look better on me.

How refreshing that a skincare product with ridiculous claims actually work!
After trying out many “fade out” creams for those annoying post-blemish reddish marks (that don’t seem to go away after a full 3 months – very annoying!) and none of them working, I had to go to Plan B and ask my doctor for help.
I was at my doctor (who I love, she’s such a gossip!) for another reason, but I decided to bring up the topic and she gave me a tube of Floxia Disco Hyper pigmentation Skin Discoloration Fade Emulsion, which “helps to fight dark spots, unify skin tone, protect from persistent skin darkening and repair cells for better resistance against UV rays.”
I had been lazy and only applied it once every few days in the beginning, but this week I’ve been good and been applying it like its directions say, twice a day.
Guess what? It’s actually working! I’d say a good 80% of the marks are gone – I’m amazed, to say the least! It’s quite a small tube (40ML, 1.35FL.OZ) and I got it for $50, but I say it’s worth every penny.
