My SkinLab Medical Spa Pampering Day!

April 16, 2009   in Bath, Body & Spa, Diary, Procedures/Services, Reviews

Guess where I was (last last) Thursday? Apart from dealing with migraines the whole week, I had a pampering spa day at SkinLab Medical Spa. To be honest, it came at a perfect time – I really needed to relax!

SkinLab Medical Spa is the culmination of the vision, dynamism and expertise of two doctors; Dr Kelvin Chua and Dr Frank Lee who wanted to integrate the pampering, attentive yet unobtrusive service of a world class spa with the most advanced, non-invasive medical techniques to provide effective beauty solution to treat mind, body and soul.

The dedicated team of SkinLab always works with the utmost professionalism and the greatest respect for each and every individual, promising a feeling of tranquility, serenity and relaxation. (You can say that again – never felt so relaxed in my life!)

I got a mini tour of the place and it was really impressive. I love that everything was ‘white’ and there were hair salon, a lounge area, jacuzzis, steam room and 27 treatment rooms. There were even specialized couple rooms with jacuzzis and spa baths built in, so couples can have special days as well. ;)

I got to try out the steam bath, and an aromatherapy massage with essential oil by certified aromatherapist and masseuse Emma. For the massage, she used only the finest and purest essential oil blend from Provence, and personalized the oil blend based on my needs and preference.

The Steam Bath

I admit I was a little scared of trying out the steam bath. Since I had been suffering from migraines that day, I thought I would just pass out from the heat! However, Emma was waiting for me outside in case anything happened.

It was surprisingly very relaxing. It was a little scary at first as I couldn’t see anything, but I got used to it. Sure, it was hot, but once I closed my eyes and started dreaming, I was at peace!

Before I knew it, Emma came in and told me 10 minutes had already passed and was wondering if I was ready or if I wanted to stay in longer.

Aromatherapy Massage

After the steam bath, I took a quick shower and headed to my massage room. I could probably go on about this forever… it was perfect! Being my very first massage experience, I didn’t really know what to expect. I probably asked a lot of dumb questions, oh well.

The room was amazing – all white, quiet, peaceful. The towel I was laying on was even heated, which was extra nice. I can’t really describe the massage, except every single part of my body (ahem, except the obvious) were massaged, pounded, pinched, stretched – you name it. I could hear all the crackles from my stiff body!

It was truly amazing, for my very first spa experience! With all the stress going on in life, if there is a luxury indulgence I fully believe in now, it would be getting massages. What an amazing stress relief!

I think the big plus for me is the aesthetics of the spa – since it was started by two doctors, it really had the whole clean, ’sterilized’ look – and anything that is white just seems so much more … peaceful. I think it just adds to everything; I can’t imagine having a relaxing massage in a multi-colored room, for example. Overall, a fantastic experience - I enjoyed it fully and was lost in my thoughts and very relaxed. Dare I say massages are more relaxing than facials?

I agree with what you say about it looking so medical and peaceful. I always seem at peace with very mellow, minimalistic design and colours. I personally like to indulge once in a while, be is spa days or facials. Looks like a truely relaxing experience!

Melanie – that’s great to hear… with everything going on in life we all need to indulge and enjoy! If you’ve not tried out massages on your spa days, I highly recommend it! Sooo good :)
