Maybelline’s Great Lash has quite a resume. They are the #1 selling mascara in the US, have been in existance for over 35 years, is in almost all of the beauty hall of fames, (it won Allure’s Reader Choice Award last year) and they even say one is sold every 1.5 minutes … the list goes on!
- The mascara that conditions as it thickens.
- Lash-doubling formula glides on smooth to build great-looking lashes.
- Lash building brush makes it easy to get a full lash look without clumps or globs.
- Contact lens safe and hypoallergenic.
- Washable; also available in waterproof formula and with curved brush.
Great Lash’s formula is really inky, so there are no dry clumps in the bottle that could be caught in your lashes. I think that one of the secrets is the brush – its spiral shape and the mascara’s inky texture goes on very sparingly and smoothly, so there is definitely no clumping.
Also, the product itself is pretty good – lashes look defined, and when applying more coats, it did build on the volume a little bit, but we would say that this mascara is a lengthening mascara, and has great staying power.
Overall, a great mascara that does what a mascara should do – makes lashes look longer, darker and beautiful. I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely our favorite mascara (I know I’m a broken record, but for now my favorite is still Lancôme’s Virtuôse), but this is one of the better ones that I will definitely be repurchasing – and for its affordable price, I would be crazy not to!
I’m really curious on what you guys think about this mascara! It seems to be either hated or loved. What do you think?

Till now I have no idea why this is so coveted by makeup artists all over. Doesn’t really do much volumising, plus it’s a tad clumpy. Methinks it’s overrated

Yeah, I thought it was more on lengthening, and gave a natural look. Luckily for me though, it didn’t clump! It was so inky so the formula was very smooth for me.
I keep trying to go to other mascaras yet keep coming back to this one. Love it!
I absolutely agree – it is a good mascara and does what it says on the tin. Not spectacular but satisfactory and good value!
P.S. Thanks for the link love!

You’re welcome, BG
Thanks for the review! =) I’ve yet to try this, but will definitely do one day.
My current fav mascara is Clinique’s Power Lash Curling mascara. It seems to be an Asia exclusive, cause I can’t find it in Clinique.com or Sephora.com. It doesn’t clump AT ALL, and it’s great for long, curled, natural-looking lashes. Doesn’t do much when it comes to volumizing tho.
One word: Smudges
sorry. Clicked too fast! I meant from my experience, it smudges
Dunno about the rest..
Caramel Geek, I have a review on your fave mascara – I will post it up in exactly 2 seconds
Kat’d, I understand what you’re talking about! Because the formula is so inky, it definitely smudges if you blink too soon. Try allowing your lashes to dry completely, that helped with me.
Thanks girl. Just read it. =) I can’t tell you how much I love that mascara.
at first i hated this mascara it didn’t apply well because my eyelashes are so short but then i gave it another try and i love this mascara!
Glad to hear, KT! Sometimes you gotta give them a second chance!
I recently tried this again and I’m actually pretty happy with it. It is definitely good for younger girls or anyone blessed with nice lashes (longer than average and thicker than average). I’ve never been disappointed by Maybelline mascara. They really do have something for everybody.
