Conditioner as shaving cream? Lemon juice as hair highlighter? You thought you’d heard it all, didn’t you?
I thought I did too until I read this beauty ‘tip’ in Cosmopolitan saying that a matchstick makes a great smokey eye eyeliner.
Light a match for instant eye makeup. Blow out the flame, then wait until it’s cool. Rub a makeup brush across the tip, and smudge the soot around your eyes. Avoid the inside of your lids, and don’t stress if it isn’t perfect; it’s supposed to look a little smudged.
Apparently this is used in photo shoots too! I can imagine this wouldn’t be the healthiest for the eyes, so I say proceed with caution – or you know, use a proper eye-safe eyeliner pencil (I love the ones by M.A.C.)!
Has anyone heard this tip before? Anyone dare try it out?

Read about this a while ago but not something I’d try – eyes are too precious to play about with!

Oh wow that sounds kinda crazy
My eyelids got rashes a few weeks back, so I’m seriously freaked by ANY product now, much more matches haha.

Too freaked out to try this crazy tip out. Also, you can get eyeliner pencils for the same price of matches (well, some brands, haha)! I just thought this tip was too crazy not to mention
It’s kind of weird for me, but I’m thinking maybe women used this method years ago when the makeup products were not invented:)

Tavia’s right… people used this method back in the day. I’ve never heard of matches but I remember reading in a history book somewhere that they would hold a metal plate over an open flame (usually beeswax candles) until the soot appeared. Then they would scrape it up, mix it with water or sometimes even spit (gross) and then apply to their eyes as kajal. It doesn’t sound very healthy for the eyes though so luckily for us, we have non-toxic eyeliner pencils!
Yup, i believe the very beautiful miss cleopatra used crushed beetles or something like that, i remember reading it and was a bit disgusted, haha. I do think this match tip was used back in the day too, but from the article I read this tip from it was a makeup artist who said it does it regularly at photo shoots, so it seems this method is still used, although probably very rarely. And I can understand why… there are so many non-toxic, great eyeliners now!
