Jessica Simpson Makeup and Retouch Free on Marie Claire

April 9, 2010

in In The Media

The beauty blogs (or every blog in general) are buzzing with the news that Jessica Simpson dared to go completely bare faced on the latest issue of Marie Claire. By bare-faced they proudly say, “No makeup, no retouching, no regrets!”

Jessica has joined two Aussie models, Jennifer Hawkins on Marie Claire and Sarah Murdoch on Women’s Weekly for going “bare faced” on a magazine cover that I too blogged about.

I assume this cover is to promote Jessica’ new show on VH1, The Price of Beauty, which I must admit I am really looking froward to watch! It’s about Jessica traveling around the world and searching about all the different definitions and lengths women go through to be considered beautiful… I think. Still, I really hope I can find it on YouTube they show it on the TV here!

However, some are calling BS about the claim of it being a makeup- retouch- free cover shoot and, well … they must think we’re dumb, no? I spy eyeliner, cream blush (or is it illuminator?), and her skin looks too perfect, so I think there’s some tinted moisturizer or retouching there. And don’t get me started on her hair… it’s perfectly styled! How this is the “real” Jessica? Still, kudos to her for good intention, I guess.

What do you think, girls? Is this really a makeup-free, photoshop-free cover, or are they pulling our leg? You know my thoughts on this. :-P

I agree with you, we can totally see this eyeliner! But still, she looks very different from how she is on other covers, you can see that there is no retouching…Of course, they probably played with the lights and such ^^

Yeah, lighting probably helped a whole lot! I do agree she looks different but I still see makeup, so perhaps this should just be called a “less makeup” shoot rather than “no makeup”. ;-P

I guess I was `buzzing` about this on my bloggy too lol! I got so heated up when they tried to shove the all natural thing in our face when she clearly is wearing makeup, albeit not so heavy. ARGH!

Yes, you were! I re-read your post and you’re right, I do see eyeshadow at the outer corners of her eyes as well. Do they really think we’re that stupid not to notice?! Sigh…

well its refreshing to see someone who isn’t barbie doll perfected through technology/makeup, and she definitely looks more average here…so kudos for going relatively bare-faced, but i say if you’re trying to make a real statement about beauty and claiming to be TOTALLY au-naturale, go all the way! like it wouldn’t have killed the cover to ditch the eyeliner and stuff and teeth whitening and stuff. meh.

Oh, I didn’t know about her teeth whitening. I don’t know, they say it’s natural but then look at her perfect hair! And then she’s on a show about inner beauty or whatever… I don’t know, I smell a lot of hypocrisy from both Jess and the mag itself! Oh well, baby steps?

so not true! she’s blonde, so her eyes shouldn’t look this defined if it’s without make up…the aussie models from your previous blog wasn’t advertised to have no make up, just no editing, i hope they just did the same for jessica…

Oops, thanks for that, Sunmom. Yep, I remember they were retouch-free, not makeup free. Sorry about that! My memory is sad!

I have to say her skin looks amazing and the lighting looks great too – I mean, she has no dark circles, not a single line, freckle, or mole on her face?! I don’t believe it. So I smell some retouching as well. :(

Ohh I havent been here for a while!!Im glad to see ur back and feeling better now Renee =)
Soooo the first thing i thought when i saw this wass “no no no, this hair was perfectly done by her personal and friend hairstylist/ hairdresser Ken Paves” right?!
I mean, it´s so obvious she curled it with a curling iron. I mean, who am i to judge but…
I have a friend, her hair is natural blond, and it´s perfect, she washes it and let it dries naturally, and it looks EXACTLY like Gisele Bundchen´s hair, i swear! Even the color, is the same and she doesnt even dye or do highlights !!! I call her bundchen! hahahha
SOOO, that´s why i know some people are REALLY perfectly naturally, but that´s not Jessica Simpson´s case. Althought i love her, but i know her hair is not like that bc i´ve watched her reality show at mtv remember?!Newlywed!!
I think she DOES HAVE make up on, like foundation,a little bit of iluminator or concelear!!!And yes they must had retouched a little, or a lot hahahah we dont know…
But she is pretty anywayyy….
I will watch her show too!!! She even came to Brazil =/ so bad i didnt see her!
xoxo

Yeah, that’s pretty obvious eyeliner and some wicked action with a curling iron right there… But on the other hand, she does look waaaaay better than she has done for ages. Not so plastic fantastic, yes? If it wasn’t for the “no make-up, no retouching” headline I think we’d all be applauding her softer, more natural look. Lesson to Jess and Marie Claire- know your limits!

i think she looks great on the cover! Although she would of had to of had
1)great lighting
2)atleast a little makeup, seriosly nobody can look that amazing without a little makeup!
Still i think after jennifer hawkins its great to finally see a celebrity bearing the cover of a magazine with no makeup or airbrushing!
