Inside My Makeup Bag – #1 Renee

May 18, 2009   in Inside My Makeup Bag, Make Up

I remember I had this feature on my old blog and it was really popular with my readers. I can understand why, it’s so much fun peaking into makeup bags – I always like to ask my friends if I can see what they use! So, I thought I’d re-create it here at Beauty Fool, and to start it off, I’ll post the contents of my makeup bag.

renee-makeup

This is my collection as of May 2009. No doubt I’ll add more to this collection, switch products, throw some away, etc, but this is what’s in my makeup bag right now and what I’ve been using for the past year or so. Hope you like it!

Face:

My face makeup has pretty much been the same ever since I started: the less on my face, the better. I normally put concealer on my (killer) under eye circles, and powder on my shiny areas.

  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – I have been using this for the last few months after hearing endless praises for it, and I am adding to those praises! I really like this product. However, this is an added ‘layer’ on my face that I don’t really need (at least for now) or want to spend money on; it’s just too expensive for me. Once this tube is done, it will be goodbye for now. Highly recommended, though. You can read a more in-depth review here.
  • Aubrey Organics Silken Earth Translucent Base Makeup – I use this to keep shine away and just to ’set’ everything. I apply it to my cheeks and nose area, where I tend to get shine the most. It gives such a matte, clean look and I love how it’s all natural, so I feel much better about putting this on my skin – no irriations, breakouts, etc. You can read my other raves about it here.
  • Laura Mercier Secret Finish Concealer - Like I wrote in my review, I am currently using this but I feel that my other concealer, Boi-ing is much better. So when this one is done, I’ll go back to Boi-ing! Boi-ing covers my hideous dark eye circles wonderfully (review here).
  • M.A.C. Powder in Taupe – I’ve never been a big blush person, but I do use this for a little definition and color to my face – I am pale! I am looking for a new blush with actual color though (got my eyes on NARS Orgasm!).

    Eyes:

Ah, eye makeup :) Now this is where I don’t mind piling it on…

    • Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper – I swear, sometimes my eyebrows get crazy. I would wake up and half would be standing up and half would be straight down – really weird! This keeps eyebrows in place.
    • Chanel La Ligne Professional Duo eyeliner – My great impulse buy last year, and secret to smokey eyes. It’s an eyeshadow and liquid liner all in one, and is the darkest black I’ve seen. Just perfect!
    • M.A.C. Eyeliner Pencils in Tarnish, Buried Treasure and Teddy – M.A.C. eyeliners are so great. There’s nothing else to be said about them, they just work and there’s no need to ever change! Tarnish is a deep green metallic, Teddy is bronze and Buried Treasure is black with a gold shimmer. Love them all for dramatic, smokey eyes!
    • Estee Lauder eyeshadow set – I was given this from a friend, which has been really useful… although ther are 15 colors, I only use 3 so far – olive, peach and dark brown. I’m too scared to try more colors right now, but when I do want to experiment, I’ve got it all here!
    • Revlon ColorStay 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad in Coffee Bean – One of my fave quads. It’s a simple quad that are just neutrals for a natural look. I also use this quad for a light brown smokey eyes. However, don’t believe the whole “stays on for 12 hours” claim – rubbish! It stays on for a night out at most, but for me that’s OK so I have no problems with that. If you demand more staying powder from your eyeshadow, you may want to use an eyeshadow primer with this.
    • Lancôme Virtuôse mascara – This is the mini travel set size. I have the full tube but I can’t seem to find it! Every time I buy Virtuose (which is pretty expensive) I ask for as many travel size ones they would give me so I get more bang for my buck. Muahaha! I won’t say too much more because I keep talking about it, but it’s my favorite.

    Lips:

Lip makeup are slowly becoming a favorite of mine. Since I bought red lipstick, I’ve been thinking of trying colors like tangerine, fuchsia, baby pinks and pomegranate colors. I am positive my lip collection will grow very soon. :)

    • Rosebud Brambleberry Rose lip balm - This is my everyday wear because I have chapped lips. Well, at least I used to – after I tried this I haven’t had any chapped lips since. This is why this product got such a raving review! And in case you’re wondering, I have gotten used to that nasty smell that I complained about in the beginning.
    • Clinique Full Potential lipgloss/ Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips – Gloss is not my favorite thing in the world, so I only use it when I have to really dress up. These two are the best I’ve tried so far – Clinique being the better of the two. The Clinique one is Pure Plump, a clear gloss I like to put over my red lipstick (below) and Buxom lips in Bambi is a great nude gloss. Review here and here.
    • Bobbi Brown lipcolor in Orange – Earlier this year I decided I wanted to try red lips and now I’m hooked. I use this only when the occasion calls (it’s quite loud!) and top it off with the Clinique lipgloss so it turns into a glossy red – this softens the look and doesn’t appear too dramatic.

That’s it for now, girls! I hope you liked taking a peak into my makeup collection :) If you’d like to show off what you’ve got, send me an e-mail at beautyfool.net [at] gmail [dot] com. Include as many pictures you want, your thoughts on each of your products, (basically like what you see here) and your name, age and location. I’ll talk to you then!

Okay…that’s it. I’ve gotta try Benefit’s Boi-ing after I’m done with my MAC concealer. =)

You have to try MAC’s Dainty Mineralized Blush. It’s a peachy pink that is absolutely gorgeous. It looks really natural on me (I’m pale too, with yellow undertones).

LOL…I’m just thinking if I were to try to show how my makeup bag look like…the title would look like “Inside my makeup BOX”. HAHA. Cause everything I have cannot ever fit into a bag. =P

SzeLing – Yeah, Boi-ing is really good, just expensive! But worth it and lasts a while, so it’s fine for me. Thanks for the recommendation for the blush, I’m actually looking for natural peachy shades … it should be fun trying them all out! Gonna look in Europe though, I’m pretty sure there are more choices and I need to get my butt off to a NARS counter! :)

And don’t worry! Send me your “box” if you’d like, it’ll be fun! :)

Hey Soapaholic (love your name!), thanks for visiting! :) I definitely recommend Boi-ing, but you should read my review on it – some people hate it because it’s drying and those in colder climates might not like it too much as well.

And thanks! Less is really better in the long run! :)

Soapaholic – And I love having you here! Thanks so much for your compliments on my site, I really appreciate it. :)

Boi-ing should be fine for you, it’s a little drying so if you feel your skin’s a bit oily it just may be even better – just try it out at the store and see how you like it first!

Great eyeliner choices. They are good ones from MAC. You have some very classy colours in your makeup bag. :)
