How to: Cover Up that Monster Zit

August 14, 2009   in Acne, How To/Tips, Make Up

popping-zit Trust me when I say this – I have had every zit possible. Once in a while I would get those ones that looked like mini volcanoes. I believe the correct term for it is a cystic pimple, but I call it Monster Zit.

Monster zit (n.): A large red lump on your face in a cruel area such as the middle of your nose, flat dead center of your forehead, and so on.

I think the worse one in my life would be the big red one dead center at the tip of my nose! Don’t get me started on the Rudolph jokes. What is really annoying about these kinda zits is that they have no pores, so makeup doesn’t stick to it properly and it’s hard to conceal. Thankfully after many trials and errors I have found the perfect way to cover those monsters up, so now if I do get a zit, it’s not the end of the world.

Here’s how I cover that zit. It’s not the usual way and it may cake and irritate the zit more … but desperate times calls for desperate measures!

This is the fastest way to cover a zit up completely:

  1. Powder. To start off, gently sweep a layer of loose powder over the zit area.

  2. Foundation. Apply foundation or tinted moisturizer, BB cream, whatever you use – we need a liquid based base with some color. This creates a tacky feeling on the skin and if all goes well, the zit should look like it’s slowly getting less red.

  3. Powder. Swipe transluscent loose powder over the area.

  4. Concealer. Pat concealer on top – I like Boi-ing by Benefit because it is so thick and covers everything.

  5. Loose powder, again! After that, dip your finger in some loose powder and pat on top of the zit. It will look very cakey and obvious, but don’t worry. Make sure you cake it on until the zit is completely out of sight.

  6. Clean it up! Take a large fluffy brush and very gently swipe away the loose powder in circular motions above the zit – this will also blend the colors with the rest of your zit. Voila! Banished.

And that’s it! I hope my method works for you. Yes, it’s not the best and it can clog the pimple even more – but when the occasion calls and it’s an emergency (cousin’s wedding, photographers everywhere; anyone?) then you gotta do what you gotta do! If all else fails, admit defeat and show off your new little friend proudly.

What do you do when you have a monster zit? And where’s the most embarrassing place a zit has popped up? :-P

The tip-of-the-nose-zit!!! LOL. Yeah…I can still remember the day when this happened to me. I was trying to make up thousands of excuses not to go to class that day. =P

I hate those!! Green-based concealer or primer also works well. I’ve also found that putting Amlactin cream works pretty well on drying out cystic pimples that harden.
