How do I get rid of blackheads on my nose?

remove-blackheads-stripes I was asked a great question from N a few days ago, and I think that all of us – men and woman – can relate to. Blackheads on the nose!

I was wondering if you could write a post on blackheads especially for those on the nose. Mine are big and are very noticeable, I hate it! Are there any removal solutions for the blackheads specifically on the nose?

Though blackheads are just clogged pores and could develop anywhere on our face, those damn things seem to love setting up a tent on our noses the best.

From my research, trial and error after all these years and people I’ve talked to, extraction is the only way to really get rid of blackheads.

Squeezing isn’t recommended for zits, but if it’s tiny blackheads on your nose … I say if you dare, do it. And by little I mean little ones. I had one tiny ‘crater’ on my nose thanks to me trying to squeeze the living soul out of a big one, so trust me, get too squeeze-happy and they will scar. The good news that since blackheads are normally much smaller than zits, the scars will go away after while. But still – don’t risk getting scars, so only attempt to squeeze the smaller ones.

The trick is this: start by warming up your face so the blackheads loosen up. Remember, pores don’t open or close, but I do think warm water and it’s steam also makes the skin much more soft and easier to squeeze the gunk out.

Next, take a clean tissue and aim for one of those suckers, and gently press down, then towards the blackhead – the trick is to squeeze from “underneath” the blackhead. Tiny blackheads normally come out with ease, but if you’ve tried a few squeezes and it’s not budging, STOP. Believe me when I say this: you will start to become frustrated, will start to get obsessed and will eventually scar your face.

If squeezing doesn’t work, you can try nose stripes. I recently asked if you all still use nose strips and a few of you wrote that they do work, so it could work for you too! Basically you apply it to damp, freshly cleansed face. Leave the stripes on for 10 minutes, and gently pull off.

Another method you can try is a blackhead extractor. It looks pretty scary, but this tool is very simple. After a shower, when your face is damp and warm you position the “head” of the tool on a blackhead and gently press. The blackhead should shoot out and the blackhead vanish (for now)! I’ve tried it before and it doesn’t work too well on the bigger ones but it might work for you. Worth a try, no?

To sum it up, the only way is through getting the blackheads out, and regularly. Unfortunately you will always get blackheads – they clog up our pores, (which are always there, obviously) so there is always a chance a blackhead will form in it.

Just remember when extracting, make sure your skin is fresh from the shower and your skin is damp and warm. Also be extra careful when focusing on one blackhead – if after one ‘try’ it doesn’t budge, leave it alone. Also, if you can, getting a facial will help too – they know how to really extract it properly (although their way is always more painful!).

What do you do to get rid of blackheads? Do you have any other tips to add? And, as always, if you have a question just e-mail me and I’ll try my best to help. :)

Nice post! I’m thinking about getting a facial but I feel so bad for the people who have to squeeze ‘em out, LOL. Did you happen to give that homemade mask a try (I believe it was your mother who told you, sth with egg whites?)? Would love to see a review on that :)

Hehe but it’s their job! I’m sure they secretly love it, LOL. :-P

And yes I did – I’m so sorry, I completely forgot about following up in the comments. I think I’ll just make a separate review on it… Will write it up tomorrow and post it up soon, look out for it! :D

Where exactly can you get those blackhead extractors? I can’t seem to find them at drugstores; is there a specific store where they are sold? Love you, Renee! :D

Love you too! :)

Hmm… I found mine at the common drugstore, so I think you could try asking them? Or any beauty supply stores. Also, I know Sephora has some because I saw them online, but I expect it to be expensive there; and you shouldn’t pay a lot for this, it’s just a simple tool. Try the drugstore or a beauty supply store! :) Let me know if yuo do find one!

Looks interesting that blackhead extractor :) I should give it a try only to see what it can do but I don’t trust it so much :)

Yeah, not the best tool but worth a try. There are also crazy mini nose vacuums (or something like that) and they are supposed to pull out everything from your pores… I tried it and that’s so rubbish I didn’t mention it in the post :-P

i don’t know about others, but when i try to squeeze out a blackhead and it won’t budge and i leave it alone, it will become a pimple the next day. or if i was able to get only half or part of a blackhead but it actually roots deep inside the pore, it also becomes a pimple…so between a pimple and a possible scar, i had to choose the possibility of scar and really squeeze everything out! good thing i don’t end up with a scar 95% of the time! my key is keeping my fingernails short and buffed and my skin damp but not wet.

Yup, same here – if you ‘anger’ it it turns into a pimple, so that’s why I said press gently and if nothing then STOP because it will def turn into a pimple and scar. Just ask me and you, huh? Hehe.

And yeah, i think 95% of the time too, but I did have a few scars when I was a teen and my skin was out of control. Luckily by now all the scars are gone :)

I wouldn’t squeeze the blackheads, ouch! I agree that using a nose strip will remove the blackheads. Don’t forget to wash your face each day, especially when you wear makeup. Many women go to sleep with their makeup on their face. This will clog your pores. It’s not good for the skin.

Thanks for your comment, Rebecca! :D

Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt too much! I’m glad to hear that nose strips work for you though, that’s probably the easiest way to get rid of them, unfortunately doesn’t work for everyone :(

And YES, wash your face everyday, especially at night before bed. Totally agree with you on that one.

I stay blackhead-free by using the Oil Cleansing Method. I don’t do it every day, more like once or twice a week, but if a blackhead starts to form, the OCM takes care of it right away.

I don’t use olive oil and castor oil like they recommend though. I’m acne-prone so jojoba oil works best for me.

Nice post! Thanks for very detailed information, I have been searching the Internet for a long time but this information is invaluable, because I’m tired of having blackheads. Also I found other websites that talk about this subject that could help supplement: RIDBLACKHEADS.BLOGSPOT.COM

as for me, use a bobby pin to take them out, using it just like the blackhead extractor, and it never leaves a scar, i recommend it.
