Get rid of blackheads – make your own nose strip!

This week’s beauty tip comes from Mama Beauty Fool – she says she used to do this when she was ‘my age’ and it’s basically a natural, DIY version of the nose strips we were talking about earlier this week.

A word of warning though – this could get a bit smelly! Here’s what you do:

  1. Take an egg white and beat it.
  2. Take a little bit of cotton wool and saturate it with the egg white.
  3. Spread the cotton over your nose. Make sure it’s a thin layer.
  4. Wait until it dries completely – it must be completely dry for this to work.
  5. Peel off and see all the gunk!

Thanks, Mom! Now I haven’t personally tried this myself but my mom swears by it, and I trust her. I’ll try it sometime and write my thoughts in the comments, but for now – has anyone tried this before? What were your experiences with it? :)

I`ll believe that as moms always have the BEST beauty advice! :) Something my mom told me (and then I saw it worked great on my friend) is that egg white`s also very good to give natural curles to your hair? And supposedly, it doesn`t smell. I can`t tell from my own experience because mine has always been kinda curly, but I do know lots of girls who have done it and they all say it doesn`t smell.
Another mom tip is beer! It works as hairspray, my mom used it for her wedding! Ha!

Btw, how`s that video coming? ;)

Yes, Moms know best! :-P And ooh I wrote about your mom’s beer tip! It’s somewhere in my archives haha.

I am curious to know how egg whites can give curls to your hair though?

Oh the video… UMmmm errrr uhhhhh ermmmmm *runs*

Hahahaha :D you goof!

Yes! You apply it to your hair as if it were mousse and then scrunch it with your hands in an upward way and you`re done!

I’ll have to try it out, but first I’ll have to find some beer! (I don’t drink haha).

I have a slight concern – if you have beer in your hair wouldn’t you smell a little bit like an alcoholic?! :X

Yeah, I think it would smell, but I was talking about the egg white, cause you said you were curious, the beer tip is a little more ¨out there¨ :P

there are other beauty tips that say egg whites used as mask would give instant anti ageing effect…i tried it once but i’m the girl with lots of allergies so my face itched and i had to wash it off right away…i’ve read somewhere though that after you steam your face, you can scrub baking soda on it and that helps the blackheads go away. i’m linking it to those white korean face masks (dunno if you ever tried any…) the one that you squeeze out of a sachet, apply to your face, let dry, and peel off just like nose strips and the blackheads stick to the mask (?) .. my theory was that baking soda could be one of the components of the mask. anyway the korean masks worked, but haven’t really tried experimenting on a DIY. if you try your mom’s advice, please post results! thanks!

Oh that sounds good, Sunmom! I have heard of the potentials of baking soda but it somehow seems very harsh, even though I heard it’s very gentle for the skin?

Oh which korean masks are those? My mom uses Kose Mask White or something and she says it pulls everything out. I am looking for a mask to take all the gunk out too, so if you have any recommendations for me I’d appreciate it! What do you use? :)

I will post results soon!

Thanks for the tip. I really don’t have so much of blackheads on my nose but from time to time they appear and I was thinking of an efficient solution to eliminate them.

I don’t have too many too, at least not anymore, but sometimes I see them and yuck they are annoying so I want to get rid of them. And squeezing is normally the easiest way but sometimes you can scar :(

Hah, my mom totally need that for me when I was in puberty! I used tissue instead of cotton because I was applying on my whole face. Don’t remember if it helped coz I am still haunted by acne.

Aw that sucks :( OK OK I’ll try it out this weekend for you all and then post my results… then I can REALLY recommend it or not :-P

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that DIY mask, but I suppose it’s the same principle as those pore strips like you said! I think adding the cotton bit is what makes it easier to remove. Otherwise you’d be going crazy scratching at your face to get it off.

Something else I heard that’s totally weird: remove blackheads with clear glue? Let it dry then rip! Hahaha. Weird, but I can see the idea behind it. Kind of ingenious.

Oh yes, I’ve heard the glue one before. I also heard you can rip out some of your skin from it… I guess some people went a bit nuts and used strong glue! :-P I remember reading this ‘myth’ in Allure magazine some time ago and they said how bad it is :( Although yeah, I can see where they got the idea from… duck tape would be stronger though LOL.

Your website was introduced to me through a post by UpgradeReality.com – I haven’t had a chance to really look through your blog because I read this post and went right ahead and tried your moms advice, although not on myself, but my boyfriend.

You see, he has a lot of blackheads, and I love removing them – yes, perhaps a bit odd, but I find it fun. Of course he doesn’t love having them removed, but that’s a different story. Back in Canada I used to use the Biore strips on him (and myself) but here in Tbilisi, Georgia they have nothing of the sort. So you can imagine my excitement when I came across this natural DYI of yours. Thank you so much for sharing!

Teaspoon of unflavored gelatin + teaspoon of milk (mixed together in a microwavable cup and then heated in a microwave for 10 seconds) = pore strip :D

swipe with an old small foundation brush and “paint” anywhere needed!
