Get Red Carpet Ready – Health and Beauty Tips

February 22, 2009   in Body, Health & Fitness, How To/Tips

Now that is a great red carpet picture!

Oscar fever! It’s awards season, so you can bet celebrities are doing everything to make sure they look their best on the red carpet. ( I heard they take 3 weeks to prepare?!)

Celebrity Nutritionist and lifestyle and longevity Expert Oz Garcia PhD, who has worked with Hilary Swank, Kim Cattrall and Mariska Hargitay, shares his tips on looking red carpet ready – whether it’s for your prom, a wedding, or any other special event in your life:

1. Eliminate salt and wheat – both cause bloating.

2. Replace coffee and artificial sweeteners (which both trigger hunger cravings) with green tea!

3. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself properly hydrated. When you wake up have a glass of unsweetened cranberry juice and water to flush out your kidneys. (My post, Drinking 8 Glasses of Water Will Help Skin? may be of interest.)

4. Exercise: Make it a top priority to find a consistent exercise program that fits into your lifestyle. Exercise and strength training are vital in losing weight and maintaining a healthy body. Work out a little everyday at least two weeks leading up to the event.

5. Cut sugar and alcohol two weeks before the event. This will help you look less swollen. Sugar causes glycation, which accelerates your skin’s aging process, including wrinkles and dehydration.

6. Get 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night leading up to the event.

7. Get a massage at least twice a week to keep stress levels down, increase circulation and soothe tired, achy muscles. Do snake massages count? Hehe. I also wrote a post on 7 Beauty Ways to Relax and De-Stress.

8. Yoga, steam baths and saunas help to reduce puffiness and inflammation, improve the appearance of skin and relax muscles.

9. Add fish to your diet – especially Salmon for its high content of omega three fatty acids which helps improve the quality of your hair and skin.  Sardines are a great, quick snack, and are loaded with omega oils.

10. Don’t skip breakfast – it helps control cravings and keeps energy up all day. Even if you don’t prefer a heavy breakfast, begin the day with a have bio-active yogurt with fresh fruit, a health shake or a bowl of oatmeal (not instant) with berries.

What do you think of these tips? Do you do anything special before big events? I’d love to hear!
