First Look: Dolce & Gabbana Cosmetics

June 16, 2009   in Diary, Make Up

So after months of anticipation, I finally got a chance to check out Dolce & Gabbana’s new makeup line. Unfortunately there’s not much pictures to show as I have a fear of being beaten up by security guards, but read on!

My first attempt to get photos and swatches was at La Rinascente in Milan. I happily walked in, snapped this photo, and got kicked out of the building from a security guard screaming in Italian. I should’ve gotten the hint from that death stare the sales lady was giving me! Unfortunately that was the extent of my D&G makeup fix in Milan.

I tried again in London at Selfridges, but this time I was a little more clever – I positioned Christine so I was out of view from a security guard – however I only got one photo because the sales lady were all at the main area! I did my best, I guess. :(

Overall, I’m a little underwhelmed by the whole line. As you can see, the collection included the usual such as eyeliner, eyeshadow duos, blush, lipstick, lip glosses and powder. I really wish they could have started with something new, just to start the brand off, but every product was pretty much everything you already have in your bag. Safe to say that both Christine and I were not really interested in even trying anything, so we went straight to NARS (muahaha!).

However, their lipstick has tons of shades so perhaps that is one of their star products. I’ll keep a look out in the future, but for now; makeup wise, I think I’m gonna pass. (Still love their perfume and fashion, though!)

Has anyone had the chance to try out the new D&G makeup line? What do you think? Am I the only one who’s not really interested? Let me know! :)

P.S. Am I going to get in trouble for posting pictures? I haven’t seen any online so perhaps they have certain laws against it, since I wasn’t allowed to take photos in there. Please, please, please tell me if you know anything and I’ll take the pictures down immediately!

Yup…I find that a lot of department stores has this strange non-written rule about taking photos inside. I find it really weird. I mean one should feel honored that someone actually wants to take a photo of your shop. Right? Doesn’t make sense. ~shrugs~
I’m not too sure about posting the pictures though. I’ve seen people postings photos of various department store counters elsewhere. But I haven’t really bump into any rules or anything saying that you can’t. Sorry…I’m not much of a help eh? =P

Back to makeup. NARS!!!!! What did you get???? Show show show…. I demand that you show right away! =P Hehe…

Haha no problem. If I get complaints then I’ll remove the pics. They’re pretty innocent anyways!

And oh yes, I did get a little somethin’ somethin’ from the wonderful NARS. ;) Want to really do an in-depth review so it’ll be up a little later! :)

Ouch. That lady looks like she was shooting daggers at you with her eyes.
I most likely would have bawled my eyes after an ordeal like that… softie here!

They’re not as strict here in Toronto, but, then again, we’re talking Sears haha.

I have not tried that brand, personally. But now you’ve got me curious!
Nars, I love. If only it wasn’t so pricey!!

Can’t wait for your review :D

Aww haha you just gotta laugh at people like that! Poor woman probably hates standing around all day!

I’ve heard of Sears but I am not sure I understand what you meant, please explain? :-P

Oh yes, NARS was pricey but I think I bought a real winner, review soon! Can’t wait, this is going to be my first review with swatches and stuff :)

Oh, hahah nothing. Just that Sears is a glorified Walmart here in Canada. Basically, not hot shot enough to have guards chasing customers out for taking photos.

Can’t wait for the swatches!

p.s. I just noticed the link you have to your Light Blue review.

It is also one of my most favourite scents. Perfect for summer!

Hi! I work for MAC at Saks and i wanted to add to your convo. They dont let you take pictures for a few reasons. In cosmetics its a copyright issue. I know its lame but all the the brands of makeup have a copyright on their logos and dispayers so thats why they dont let you. Were no soo soo strick but Ive seen people be asked not to take pics. We also have a lot of celebs in Bal Harbour so thats could be another reason. I will be working for DG Cosmetics towards the end of Aug. I know Ive posted pics of the NYC counter on my facebook and no one seems to have cared. They put so much work into the coutners they should be proud..anyways.. hope that clears up why they are so crazy

Thanks for sharing! I guess I understand the copyright issue … but I’ll leave these pictures up, unless someone tells me off then I’ll remove them. You’re right – the counters are so pretty they should show it off!

Thanks again and good luck with the new job! :)
