What’s your take on aging, ladies? Are you terrified of getting ‘old’? I am sure everyone can admit, at some point, that getting (and looking) older scares them just a little bit.
I’ve been writing a few anti-aging posts lately on prevention (moisturizing, sunscreen, etc.) because I do believe, personally that if you do want to appear younger (and feel it) there are other ways than just the usual plastic surgery route.
Clara Krupp’s best selling book, How Not to Look Old may be of interest for those who want to look and feel younger. Here, she shares some of her tips:
Charla’s Top Ten Ageless Secrets to Take Off Ten Years
- Pick pink for your pout.
- Arch your brows upward.
- Don’t outline your lips with a dark liner.
- Whiten your teeth.
- Cut some bangs.
- Switch from powder to cream blush.
- Soft is better than hard (makeup).
- Illumination is better than darkness (face, hair).
- Moist is better than dry (skin, lips, eyes).
- Slim is better than heavy (eyeliner, clothing).
Do you agree with these tips? I have not read her book (let me know if you have, and if you recommend it!) but I have to agree with the list above – they are easy tips to make anyone, regardless of age, look ‘fresher’. Let me know what you think! :)

Love her tips. :) I have to agree with #5, everyone instantly looks younger with bangs :)
Yeah! I also think bangs make you think of your younger days, I mean who didn’t have one as a kid?! It definitely makes someone more youthful, that’s for sure.
I hope my mom will not be insulted if I tell her a few of the tips with regards to ageing!
The one thing I usually regard to ageing with is teeth. The ‘older’ folks tend to have discoloured teeth! Dull yellow. deep yellow, pale yellow. all yellows!!!! So I think whitening one’s teeth is definitely a step in the right direction!!!!!
“all yellows”
LOL! So true. Your mom won’t mind, tell her that famous lines moms always use: “I only tell you this because I love you…” hehe :P
Such smart advice! I work at as a sales associate at a high end cosmetics/skincare store and a woman came in yesterday and wanted a simpler makeup routine, had dry skin, and redness/sensitive skin. She was about 50 and her skin looked tired, matte, and lacking vitality.
I actually used around 6 of these 10 tips on her. After removing her existing makeup, applied a primer with a color corrector, a tinted moisturizer, and finished off with a cream blush (Nars Cream Blush in “O”). I also applied a slightly pink lip liner and a sheer soft pinkish lipstick. Around her eyes I applied one of my favorite eye treatments and some creamy concealer.
Her transformation was amazing! Her skin was glowing, radiant and her facial lines were significantly less noticeable around her mouth, eyes and cheeks. She looked at least 10 years younger immediately! These tips really make a huge difference, remember them!!!
Wow thanks for your story, Jen. It’s nice to know someone who “knows what they’re doing” also agrees and practice these tips. Make up really can do wonders huh? :P
Getting old isn’t fun, eh? Yellow teeth, like above. Thanks for this info. her book looks interesting, might have to check it out for myself.
Btw, number 9 is huge. Dryness in the skin looks so ageing, it makes you have wrinkled and just a very “hard” look. Moisturized skin always looks more dewy and youthful. Like you’re glowing! :)
Hey Kammi. There are more aspects to getting old other than the physical, and that scares me too, so no, I don’t think “getting old” is any fun at all! Circle of life, though :P
I have to agree with you on #9. To be honest, I agree with all of her tips, she seems to be on point. I had an idea to get this book for my mom this Mother’s Day, but she’s the type of person who would say, get me a facelift instead! Funny woman.
They also say for women who are younger, powders aren’t that all good in cold climates and atmospheres because they can creep into fine lines, and over time just make them worse! “Dewy” is definitely more youthful, and helps prevent wrinkles and lines.
