Ah, Cetaphil. Who hasn’t heard about this beloved brand? I mentioned them earlier this year because I was impressed with a new moisturizer of theirs that seemed to have a ton of benefits other than just moisturizing the skin. I hadn’t had much experience with Cetaphil though, except one time in Europe where I lost my cleanser and had to use my dad’s for a night as a substitute until I bought more of my cleanser. So yes, my father is a Cetaphil fan too!
However, I was given the opportunity to try out Cetaphil’s skin care plan, which I have been using for the past few weeks. Also, some might remember I held a contest to find some of my readers who had dry sensitive skin as well to try it out. So consider this a mega review on all things Cetaphil, I really wanted to write a compete, in-depth review because this is such a big brand.
My skin type
Before I start, just want to inform all of you that these products are made for those with dry and sensitive skin. I feel that my skin is sensitive and prone to breakouts and peeling, but I’m not so sure if it is as dry as these products are suitable for. Also, I have suffered from pretty bad skin as a teen and still am a little paranoid, so I do feel like I’m acne prone as well. So I don’t really know what kind of skin I have, but it has characteristics of a dry, sensitive and acne-prone skin type. Phew! (How to find your skin type here.)
The products
Cetaphil has a range of products to suit different skin types, but my readers tried out the gentle cleanser, and I tried out the one for oil skin:
- Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser (soap-free) for my readers,
- Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser for me
- Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (non-comedogenic, fragrance-free) for all of us.
Therefore, this review will include reviews for the Oily Skin Cleanser, Gentle Skin Cleanser and Moisturizing Cream.
Oily Skin Cleanser – recommended for combination to oily skin, or acne-prone skin. It provides a deep-pore cleansing effect without drying out the skin.
Gentle Skin Cleanser - specially formulated for those with dry and sensitive skin. It is a non-soap cleanser and leaves a moisturizing film on the skin after. In time, the skin will feel smoother and more supple.
Moisturizing Cream – repairs and restores your skin’s natural ability to retain moisture. It does not clog pores and is fragrance free.
My thoughts

Like I said earlier, I feel as though my skin is all over the place, though I was glad to review the oily skin cleanser insated of the gentle one. This was because 1) Singapore is hot, you get greasy very easily, and 2) I do feel I am acne-prone and 3) I hate zits and forbid them to grow on my face!
The Oily Skin Cleanser, however, might’ve been a bit too strong on my face. After cleansing, I did feel a tightness (a characteristic of dry skin) that was soothed away with the Moisturizing Cream, however, I was not sure if the Oily skin formula was doing something too harsh to my skin.
Nevertheless, no breakouts for me using the cleanser, so although I felt it to be a bit strong for me it does say what it promises to do, so for oily skin girls, I recommend you give this a try.

The Moisturizing Cream, however, I liked the best. It moisturizes the skin greatly and best of all it is non-comedogenic, so it doesn’t clog your pores. However, for those who have acne-prone or very oily skin, you may find this a little too moisturizing. I did a look a tad ’shiny’, especially when I went out, but for the night time it was perfect (I freeze my room with the air-con so I didn’t feel it oily at all). So I guess it really depends?!
To sum up my babble (and I always find it easier with an actual rating system) if I had to rate these two products; the Oily Skin Cleanser would receive a 6/10 and the Moisturizing Cream a 8/10. I really liked the moisturizer, but perhaps for the cleanser I would have better suited the gentle cleanser instead.
Readers’ thoughts
Here are my readers’ thoughts, so that you can get an outside opinion. All who entered had dry and sensitive skin, so for those who have this skin type too, you may want to read what they say and try the products out yourself!
“I have very sensitive skin that comes in rashes whenever I use usual cleansers. When I tried the Cetaphil, the cleanser cooled down the rashes. After the first wash, I noticed that the rashes was not as red, these rashes are little bumps like pimples. After the first cleanser sample I find Cetaphil and my skin agrees so I will be using the cleanser from now on. Thank you Cetaphil!!!!” — P, 43
“Thanks for introducing me to this brand. I have seen it a lot at supermarkets and pharmacies, and it seemed to be very affordable and a popular brand. However I never tried it out until now. I like the cleanser, it is a simple product for simple skin like mine. The moisturizer is also fine, smells very nice and is gentle on skin. For those with skin that is simple like mine, this works!” — HJ, 26
“Hi, I’m 16 and just starting out with my skin care routine. I was glad to try Cetaphil because it is mild and my skin felt smoother after because it leaves a small film of moisture to the skin after. The moisturizer also did not feel oily and it was a good product with the cleanser. As a student I do not have the money to spend on such expensive skincares, so Cetaphil’s products is good and affordable for me too.” – J, 16
In other words, a great simple skincare for those who need something gentle. Plus, it is so affordable that it really is worth a try! Has anyone tried Cetaphil products? What do you think of this very popular skin care brand?

Oh, Cetaphil does has an oily skin cleanser that I tried out! But yes I should do a post on recommendations for different types of skincare, thanks for the idea, will look into that for a post soon!
Strangely enough when I tried it in the winter, my skin dried out terribly. But when I use it in the summer it’s fine. I don’t think my skin likes the film that it leaves behind, but it’s fine when I wash it off and use a moisturizer.
Hey Danielle! That’s so strange about it acting different in Winter! I don’t like having a film behind too but for the oily skin cleanser I didn’t really feel it. I spoke with a friend last night who says she swears by Cetaphil though, she used to have pretty bad acne and it has cleared it up! I only wish I knew earlier I would’ve forced her to do a review as well
never knew they had a range of oily skin! i should check it out! Other than that, yess this product is awe’s, leaves my face feeling squeky clean and moisturized !
