To my fellow Singaporeans, happy national day! I hope you are all enjoying your day off. I love my country and think this photo above captures our city perfectly – beautiful, clean and city meets jungle.
Here I am at age 7 wearing my first sarong kabaya at UN Day. At United Nations Day in school, we’d all have to dress up in our national costumes and I’d always have a hard time choosing between Denmark and Singapore! I always chose Singapore in the end because I love the outfit! This is the sarong kabaya, which you might have seen our air stewardess wear. I love the colors the best.
Have a wonderful holiday. :) Happy 45th Birthday, Singapore!

Nothing is more terrifying than avoiding your own blog because you hated the direction was going.
“What are you on about this time?” you ask. To put it simply, I had always visioned Beauty Fool to be an ‘online’ magazine because my passion since I can remember was writing, and I was (and still am) obsessed with magazine and the media. I also thought that if Beauty Fool was a bit more ‘professional’ and I wrote more ‘formal’, I can add it to my resume when I job hunt, because blogs are still looked down upon from the ‘real’ media. (Sad but true, at least for now.) The only thing is, Beauty Fool is a blog. And blogs are supposed to be fun, personal and real – the complete opposite of (most) magazines.
So: I’ve decided to rid this ‘goal’ I had of BF being an online magazine of some sorts and embrace the fact that it is a blog, because I love blogs and the world of blogging. My favorite blogs are personality-driven, so I don’t know why I wanted to go in the other direction with Beauty Fool. I guess had always been too shy with this “online thing”, but I recently had an Ah-ha! moment (thanks Oprah) and decided I should come out of my shell and make Beauty Fool more personal – at least so you can know the real me; I’ve been shy long enough!
So what changes will be happening here? Well, for starters I already wrote a more personal type of post that I hoped you liked, (and will be adding more in the future) and second I completely stripped the blog design bare. Admit it – the last design was too “high-fashion” and pretentious and I personally hate that sorta stuff! The current design is still in the works but I plan to make it completely Renee – down to my favorite colors for fonts, patterns, images, icons, and whatnot. I’ll also be adding more personal stories and pictures (where relevant, of course, it’s still a beauty blog, don’t worry!) and I really hope you’ll like this direction Beauty Fool is taking.
I would really love to hear your thoughts on this – will you still be reading if I add a bit more of a personal touch? :)

Hello hello! So I’ve decided that I wanted to open up an opportunity on Beauty Fool for some of my readers to show off their work. I know a lot of you are fellow bloggers too, and I really value your visits, comments and e-mails – and it’s time I return the favor.
Guest posts can benefit you in many ways. First, it lets you show off your work on other sites (which would be this one), it creates more presence of your blog and its brand on the web, and of course, it could be an opportunity to gain more like-minded readers to your site. I’ve always hated the way some sites demand exclusivity and don’t allow links out of their site, for fear of losing readers…. I think it’s ridiculous and we should all support each other’s blogs!
So if you’d like, shoot me an e-mail introducing yourself, your site, and what post you’d like to submit. Just a heads up on the type of post that will fit Beauty Fool, check out the About page where I list the topics written here. (Basically, anything to do with beauty, whether it’s inner our outer.) If you don’t have a blog that’s fine. If you’d just like to share some ideas with all of us, do write in too. I like that sometimes the spotlight is on readers, rather than me – I’m always talking and yapping on about myself – it’s time the spotlight is on my wonderful readers as well, I want to hear your voices too! :) If all goes well, perhaps we can make this an “end-of-the-month” special.
(By the way, this isn’t a “one” time thing. If you’re reading this and it’s 6 months past the publish date or if you don’t have any ideas right now, you can still write in later. I’m always welcome to guest posts, no matter what the time.)
I look forward to your emails! :)
xx Renee
Update: Hey guys, I’ve received tons of e-mails and I think I should add these ‘guidelines’ as some of you are a bit confused as to what I’m looking for! So sorry for not being clear enough previously. Here are some pointers that I feel can make your guest post the best it can be. :)
Helpful Hints for Guest Bloggers
- Original content is the best to keep the post fresh, fun and current.
- 250 words or more is preferred, so load the post up with as much info, examples, etc, so readers can be fully informed. (Check out this and this for an example of a guest post.)
- Please include a short bio of yourself; about 3 lines would be great. If you’re comfortable with it, include a small photo of yourself so it can accompany your mini bio.
- I can find images for your post, but if you’ve found your own, please include a link to the source.

Today may be Earth Day, but it also is Beauty Fool’s 2nd birthday! :) Yep, today marks 2 years of being on the web, and I can’t believe it. Time is flying – I still remember writing my other post about the very first birthday, as well as brainstorming the name for the blog for weeks upon weeks.
I just want to thank everyone for visiting, commenting, linking and sending me tweets, FB messages and emails! When I started Beauty Fool I just had the idea to just write and write about what I love (since no one was listening to me talk, ha!) and I couldn’t have imagined it to have such a little community like it is today. Thank you so much! I also never thought I’d meet such cool and sweet people online, and I have – you’ve all been super nice to me and it’s such a pleasure to know you all. :)
Here’s to another 2 years?!
xx Renee
Hi everyone, just wanted to write a quick note. I know I don’t normally write such personal stuff, but I’ve been quite sick and not getting any better, so I’ll be going for more scans/tests etc. I’ll tentatively take a break for say maybe 2 weeks, hopefully if I get better before then I’ll be back.
I’ll leave comments unmoderated, so you can still post, but I’ll only reply comments/e-mails when I’m better. Thanks for understanding. I’ll miss you guys! :(
Take care,
xx Renee

That’s right! I’ve made a page for Beauty Fool on Facebook, so if you’re one of the gazillion-million people who’ve signed on Facebook, please feel free to join!
I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner, because I feel this could be a place where we can interact the most and create a real community. So feel free to get involved as much as you’d like – think of it as an online forum… Post pictures, start up discussions, show off your own blog, make suggestions for Beauty Fool; whatever you like, I really don’t mind (as long as it isn’t anything insulting/dirty!). I want to make you all a big part of the page as well. And if you could invite your friends too I would be eternally grateful. :)
If you have any ideas for the page, please let me know as well. In the meantime, click here to join the Beauty Fool page, and I’ll see you there! :D
