Make Up

It’s your favorite time of the week! ;) OK, maybe not, but I really like writing the Beauty Tip of the Week posts because it means it’s a Thursday – and the weekend is just one day away!

This week’s tip is super simple. If you’ve run out of blush (shocker! horror!), walk, don’t run to your closest pink or peach lipstick (dark colors like reds, purples and browns won’t work with this tip). All you need to do is rub a cotton ball over your lipstick, and pat some on the apple of your cheeks – not too much, or you’ll be needing this blush tip.

Next, use your middle and ring finger to blend the lipstick on your cheeks and follow your cheekbone up to a little before your earlobes. Keep it light handed and remember to blend. Voila, your very own cream blush.

Have you tried this makeup trick before? How did it work for you? Those who are acne-prone may want to skip this trick though, as the oils from the lipstick may cause breakouts.

Question: are you a dog or a cat person? If you said the latter, embrace your catloving ways and add these cute lipsticks from Paul and Joe to your cat collection! The lipsticks are part of Paul and Joe’s Fall/Winter 2010 makeup line, and come in 3 colors: Pink Beige, Pearl Orange and Exotic Pink. And exotic these lipsticks are! And a bit weird, but we love anything crazy and cool here at Beauty Fool and don’t judge….

Will you be getting a cat lipstick anytime soon? ;)

Say hello to our very first guest blogger, Nicole who blogs at Wonderfully Made Mama. Nicole resides in Charlotte, NC, USA and is originally from Southern California. She works in the corporate world and is plotting to get out! In the meantime, she’s here to share us eight great drugstore finds she swears by. Take it away, Nicole….

Hello beautiful people! If any of you are like me, when I walk into the drugstore, I usually end up spending a lot more time there than I originally planned! The nice thing is that they are convenient, and many useful items you can purchase there won’t break the bank. Here are my top eight:

1. Johnson’s Body Care Melt Away Stress Lavender and Chamomile Lotion: I absolutely love this scent! I discovered this through my co-worker and have been hooked every since, it’s my all purpose lotion now. Besides the fab scent and pretty lavender tint, it’s greaseless, soothing and moisturizing.

2. Burts Bees Lip Shimmer: MMM! I love that this is all natural, not sticky, and great flavor/color options. Definitely a staple for your lips.

3. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly: This one is a classic! Use it to tame your brows, and moisturize you feet. Coloring your hair? Apply some petroleum jelly to your hairline so the color won’t absorb into your scalp. Some people swear if you use it at night on your eyelashes, it makes them grow.

4. Q-tips: Yes a simple selection, but the uses are many! Use your q-tips to exfoliate your lips before applying your lip color, great for applying moisturizer under your eyes to be more precise, Use them to dab away mascara smudges, and on and on… Great must-have for the makeup bag.

Random fact about myself: If I see a cupcake, I must eat it. So with The Body Shop’s latest collection very beautifully done up to look like a cupcake stand… I couldn’t resist.

Baked makeup is not new, but The Body Shop has come up with a range that is sure to have you itching for one of their goodies. The Baked to Last collection is handmade in Italy by local artisans and baked in small batches for 24 hours, to ensure that the pigments are bound together to create a smooth sheen of color. This collection also boasts strong pigments that are long lasting, filled with ingredients such as Community Trade organic oil olive from Italy and marula oil form Namibia.

I had seen the beautiful images for this collection on some other blogs beforehand, so I was excited when I was invited for a nice cozy afternoon at The Body Shop where TBS introduced the latest collection. I was allowed to try out some of the makeup from the new collection, and I must say I already have some favorites. I even got a makeover with products from the new collection, so I could see first hand how the products worked. (Unfortunately, I have no pictures to show you – this was right before I went to Phuket and I accidently wiped out my memory card before my flight, thinking I’d make room for holiday pics. I had totally forgotten about all the pictures inside, which also included some of my beloved late pet. :( Ugh!)

Anyway. The Baked to Last collection offers 8 eyeshadow pans, each with two colors – a lid color and a deeper color for the outer corners or for eye-lining. It can be used dry or wet, depending on your desired intensity. I tried out the deepest color, Jade, a gorgeous deep green/ turquoise. It reminds me of a mermaid and I think it especially looks great on those with deeper colored eyes – it really made my brown eyes pop! The pigmentation was also good and it has a nice shimmer that’s not too out there (I normally cannot stand shimmer) and I’ve used the eyeshadow wet as a eyeliner and the color is so intense it looks like liquid eyeliner. Good enough for me, you know I adore eyeliner. ;)

It’s that time of the week again! Whether you’re applying tinted moisturizer, liquid foundation or moisturizer, there is a tip to really get the most out of your product.

To get the most out of the dollop of product you squeezed out, instead of squeezing it onto the back of your hand, squeeze the product onto your palms. Take two fingers and really ‘mix’ the product in – the heat from your fingers will make the cosmetic more spreadable for a flawless finish, and you use less product. If, like me, you are a beast and like to slap on your makeup, rub the makeup gently between your palms and spread it all over your face. This also uses such a small amount of product it’s unbelievable – your products would last much longer!

How do you apply your products? Do you do anything special or do you just slap it on? ;)

Oh boy. Talk about dying and going to eyeshadow heaven! This palette from Coastal Scents has been quite a hit within the online beauty world, and it was only a few weeks ago that I decided to buy it and see what all the fuss is about. And I am so glad I did!

First of all, the price is amazing. You’re getting 88 shadows for about 20 bucks (!!!), so it’s already really afforable and worth the price. Yes, the colors are dime sized (how often do you finish a whole eyeshadow pot, anyway?) and there are a few ‘misses’ and chalky colors… but overall, it’s a really great palette. The lighter, matte shades are hard to show up on the skin so they aren’t too great, but the others are perfect. The colors are really pigmented and bold, and lasts on your lids. (My biggest eyeshadow pet peeve is that it disappears before dessert!)

What’s great about the 88 Color palette is that you have endless color combinations and looks to play with, which is one of the reasons I wanted to buy this palette… I’m gonna start doing some looks here on Beauty Fool! I love makeup but to be honest I haven’t been too experimental – I’ve worn eyeliner since the day I discovered it and my favorite ‘look’ is smokey eyes, which is basically black and very safe. So lookout for some tutorials. ;) (If you have any requests, let me know… there’s so many looks, I don’t know where to start!)

In the meantime, there’s not so much to say about this palette except that if you’re into color, experimenting and want something affordable, I would highly recommend this palette, I really adore it! I think I’ll end here with some photos for you to drool at…. ;)

Due to my holiday the past week, I’ve skipped not one, but two (!!!) Beauty Tip of the Week posts and I apologize! I’ve missed it too much, it’s my favorite type of post to write. Hopefully, this tip will be so useful that you’ll forgive me. ;)

This week I thought that I’d share some of my tips on eyeliner, my all time favorite makeup. Plus, I stumbled upon the image above and was so inspired, I knew I had to write about it – seriously, now that is what I call eyeliner. (By the way, does anyone know who the model is? She’s gorgeous!)

Though I’ve been using eyeliner for almost 7 years now and consider myself to be pretty good at it, when I started out I had no idea what I was doing – drawing a straight line on your upper lash line is harder than it looks! Thankfully, I once read about this tip to make the application easier and of course I’m going to share it with you.

For beginners to eyeliner (or those with shaky hands), draw several dots across your top lash line, as close to your lashes as possible. Next, play ‘connect the dots’ with short strokes to join them, making it a full line. And don’t worry if it’s not perfect – take a Q Tip and softly smudge the line so it blends nicely. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be applying eyeliner like a pro in no time!

Have you ever tried this method before? If you haven’t I really recommend you try it out – it really makes it easier to apply a straighter line. :) (And if you want even more eyeliner tips, check out my post Makeup 101 – How to Apply Eyeliner!)
