Happy New Year, everyone! Can you believe it? 2010! Now that it’s a brand new year – and a brand new decade – it’s time to start living with no regrets and achieve your dreams.
Have you decided what your New Year resolutions are? I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with them … I am so determined on the 31st about my goals, but by the 2nd of January I’ve forgotten all about them!
However, I do have a resolution this year to start off the new decade, but if you don’t really have any resolutions, may I suggest some? Here’s a little dose of inspiration for you to start the year off. I hope you like them:
- Tell that special someone how you feel about them. Open up … life is short.
- Give up the grudge from the past. Forgive and move on.
- Celebrate everything.
- Stop gossiping. Not a good look on anyone.
- Focus on the good, not the bad.
- Take risks often.
- … But always listen to your gut. It’s ALWAYS right.
As always, feel free to add your own to my list! Also, if you do have any practical New Year resolutions, I’d love to hear them. As well as listening to my own advice above (I like to practice what I preach), my resolution for 2010 is that I am going to become an early riser and a morning person.
These past few months my sleep has been insane; some nights I find myself up until 6am doing who-knows-what. I am determined to kick my night owl ways because I feel it’s really affecting my health and my social life – I can never do stuff in the mornings and afternoons because my lazy bum is still in bed! No more.
Do you have any New Year’s resolutions and goals? How is this going to be your year? ;) And to make sure we’re still sticking to our goals, I’ll do a follow-up post to see how we’re all doing and to give you a virtual kick in the butt if you’ve slacked off! ;)
Update 01/01/2010: Wow, it felt so weird typing “2010″! Happy New Year! How did you celebrate? Did you do anything crazy or did you have a quiet evening? I ate way too much as usual, so I ended up having a stomach ache (story of my life!) but I had a great time with family and friends. The picture above was my ‘outfit’ for the night, but I believe it was a bit ridiculous so I got a few laughs and stares!

“I’m not the same person I was two or three years ago. I think going through difficult times, and being forced to confront issues in my life that were dragging me down, have make me appreciate what is truly valuable and beautiful in life.
“It’s not about attention or seeking approval anymore; it’s about being a happy and generous human being. That’s my new way of looking at the world. I’ve never felt better, and I’m having the time of my life.” — Nicole Richie

Happy October! This month, I want everyone to forget the idea that you’re arrogant, self-centered or just plain narcissistic if there are certain qualities you love and like to celebrate about yourself. So, I want to ask you, what do you love about yourself?
Please do share! If you’re a blogger and want to do a post on your own blog about this, do leave a link in the comments too so we can all check it out! I also think keeping a list like this somewhere special will be a great pick-me-up on days when you’re not feeling too good and things are getting you down. Write as much as you can, and they can be as serious or silly as you want! I’ll start things off …
What I Love About Myself
- I love that I’m an only child.
- I love that I have more than a handful of friends that are the ‘fly-half-way-across-the-world-to-bail-you-out-of-jail’ type friends. Not that I’ve ever been in jail, though.
- I love that I have survived some very challenging times in my life and I am still smiling today.
- I love my height. Thanks, Dad.
- I love that I have standards and morals I live up to, and I’m even more happy that everyone around me seems to respect it.
- I love my handwriting! (All 8 of them.)
I look forward to reading your list, let’s celebrate ourselves! :)

Oh my I am the big 2-1 today, 09-19-09! I hope everyone is having as great a weekend as I am. :)
Now that I’ve accepted that I am an “adult” I thought I could pass on some of my wisdom (ha! as if) that I’ve learnt over the years. Or, you know, just spread the joy of life! There’s something about birthdays that just make you insanely happy, no?!
Here are 21 things I’ve learnt before my 21st birthday.
- Whatever crap you’re going through, it will pass. I promise!
- The saying ‘there are plenty more fish in the sea’ is totally true.
- When it comes to friendship, quality is always better than quantity.
- ‘You reap what you sow‘ is completely, utterly, true.
- Tyson Ritter is still the hottest guy alive. LOL!
- Whatever you’ve failed at, you can pick yourself up and succeed again.
- Health and family are the most important things.
- It is possible to really forgive people and let go.
- School and learning can actually be fun.
- This planet is so beautiful. If you can, you should really get out and explore the world – the history, nature, sceneries.
- Learning a second language is a total privilege, and I urge you all to pick up a new language. I vow to pick up my French, oui oui oui!
- It’s OK to ask for help.
- Not everyone online are weirdo pedophiles. You can meet cool, fun, smart people online … Like my readers (duh)! I can’t believe some of the great friendships I’ve formed. Thank you! :)
- Brian ‘Head’ Welch is a total inspiration. (I highly recommend his book, Save Me From Myself). Listening to his story really helped – as weird as it may sound – save ME from myself … Haha so dramatic!
- It’s OK to choose your best feature and flaunt it, baby!
- What doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger. Cliche, but it’s true.
- Children are the cutest thing alive. Spend more time with those under 6 years old and you’ll find that life really is simple, joyful and fun!
- … And also those over 70 – their wisdom will amaze you and it’ll open up your eyes to a lot of things.
- Smiling is contagious. Pass it on! :) :) :)
- Family does not only need to be ‘blood related’.
- Everything happens for a reason.
Does anyone else have anymore lessons they learnt ‘growing up’? Please do share any I might have missed out! :D
Have a great weekend!

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” – Marilyn Monroe
My favorite ‘imperfection’ I have is a scar dead center on my forehead. I wish I had a cool story, but it really is silly! I got it when I was 5, on New Year’s Eve – I was dancing around and wanted to do some fancy move, when BAM! I slammed my forehead into the glass table, and then, naturally, being 5 … I started screaming my head off.
I haven’t had much comments about them, except one girl who I’d just met very sarcastically asked if I’d ever considered laser to remove it. I told her very nonchalantly that I thought it made me look badass (a joke!), but in hindsight I should’ve said – and will in the future – that I did it myself to show my devotion to Harry Potter. The reactions would be priceless. :)
What ‘imperfections’ do you love about yourself?
I received a short e-mail from Mommy Beauty Fool, and thought I’d share – just a little reminder for the upcoming week – and your life! ;)

Audrey Hepburn’s favorite beauty tips that she often quoted in public and applied to her life were from a poem written by humorist Sam Levenson.
I found it recently and thought it would be perfect!
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode, but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives and the passion that she shows.
The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.
When Audrey was asked if she had any other personal beauty tips other than this poem, she said, ”If I had them, I’d make a fortune. But I know what helps - lots of sleep, lots of fresh air, and a lot of help from Estee Lauder.”
