Inside My Makeup Bag

Being my friend has its pros and cons. The pro is that I recommend tons of beauty products that you eventually love and thank me for. The con is that I force you to write about them. Today, my best friend Christine, 20, from London gives us a look inside her makeup bag.

Hi everyone, this is my makeup bag. I hope you like it!

Face:

  • Clinique Redness Solution Powder - It’s good as a base either under or over makeup. It contains ingredients that also treats the redness, not just disguises it.
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – Renee and I bought this together and it’s perfect. (I totally agree, it is perfect. I just wish it was organic! You can read my review here.)
  • Laura Mercier Secret Finish Concealer – It’s been over a year and it’s still going strong. It’s expensive but worth the price. (It is worth the price! You can read my review here.)
  • Clinique Anti-Blemish Treatment Concealer – I liked this at first but then my skin started to become dry when I used it, so I’ve stopped for now.
  • Clinique Superfit Pressed Powder - Used this for awhile but not anymore.
  • Clinique Cream Blush Stick – Pretty color. I liked it at first but it wears off.
  • M.A.C. blush in Out of Bounds - I bought this hoping it will be a good contour powder but now it’s looking a bit to orange for me!
  • Estee Lauder Blush - Perfect rose color for my fair skin. It’s so good I’ve had it for 3 years, probably should throw it away!

Eyes:

  • M.A.C. Woodwinked eyeshadow – Great for evenings out with its subtle shimmer in dim lights, but it does come out orange in photos which I really don’t like.
  • Maybelline Color Definer - Amazing staying power, comes in great natural looking colors.
  • Chanel Exceptionnel mascara - Really good. Perfect for my eyelashes. Right formula, doesn’t weigh them down and stays black all day.
  • Clarins Double Fix Mascara – It works, it’s awesome. If you have a mascara that isn’t waterproof or smudges, apply this and it won’t budge!
  • Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper - Another recommendation by Renee, bought it at Harrod’s this past Summer. It is very natural looking, stays put throughout the day and shapes my eyebrows as well as filling them in.
  • Chanel Le Ligne eyeliner in Brown – Darn good! (Darn right! You can read my raving review here.) Use it everyday. You can create so many different looks with it. Renee recommended it to me and when she was in London this summer we went to go and buy it together! I am definitely going to buy the newer green color they just released.

Lips:

  • Clinique Lip palette - Nice soft pinks in a handy compact. I use it on my cheeks, too!
  • Lipcote – this is supposed ot be a lipstick sealer but I bought it and it doesn’t really work!
  • Rimmel Lip Liner – It does the job. That’s about it!

Beauty Fool: Why thank you, Christine! Like she said, a few of the products in her collection were through my recommendations, so I have a few of those products featured inside my makeup bag as well. :)

If you’d like to show us what you’ve got (makeup, that is!) shoot me an email with photo(s), explanations, your age, name, location, where if we can find you online (blog, Twitter, etc) and we’ll talk there! :)

Ah, finally; my favorite time of the year – the end of it! :-P This begins endless dinner parties for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, and then New Year’s Day (yes my crazy family, friends and I celebrate all these days!)

This gave me an idea on a post – what beauty essentials do we need while we are going to all these events? You can’t carry too little in case you need something, but you can’t exactly drag around your big make up trunk!

Here are some of my recommended essentials needed in your bag for a nice evening out. Please add your own in the comments!

  • Lip products. Lip products need constant reapplying as the color wears out after drinking and eating (and all those kiss-greetings!) so remember to bring whatever lip product you’re using, whether it’s lip balm, lip stick or lip gloss. A great lip balm that keeps your lips super moisturized with little (or no) reapplying is this one by Rosebud. I highly recommend it.
  • Cover up. Remember to bring a little concealer or a compact – whatever you use to cover up – in your purse. (Here are some tips on what foundation would suit you.) A concealer stick is great for on the go and can touch up any dark circles or blemishes that could be revealed after your face has sweated a little – especially after a long night of dancing!
  • Oil- control. I never leave home without my trusty oil blotting sheets, they are wonderful! I have the powdered ones so I’m getting two in one; a little touch up, and it removes the shine! You don’t need to spend money on those brands who overprice them (not mentioning any names…). You can get really inexpensive ones from your local drugstore that work just as well.
  • Mini perfume. If you’d like to spritz yourself as the night goes on, do bring a small version (or the original) of your perfume. If you’d like your perfume to last without the touch ups, read this tip here on how to make your fragrance last longer.
  • Breath mints. Pretty self explanatory, right? ;)
  • Hand sanitizer. Or maybe it’s just me being paranoid, but I do keep a tiny hand sanitizer in my bag, especially after the H1N1 flue scare! It also helps for all the handshaking and greetings you’ll have to do! If not, just remember to wash your hands before eating and after!

In conclusion, have fun and try not to think about any beauty ‘mishaps’ – you need to enjoy yourself! However, just remember to include those little bits and bobs in your bag just in case (and whatever can fit in your bag!).

Also, this is optional; but, if you have an all-in-one makeup palette, do pack that. This is easy for touch ups on eyeshadow, lipstick and blush. What beauty products do you keep in your purse for nights out? Do you have any other items to add to my list? :)

Michelle, 27, from Malaysia is here to show us a sneak peak into what’s inside her makeup bag. Take it away Michelle…

cimg2302-1

Hey everyone, so here’s what inside my makeup bag. Since I’m a little older I have tried many makeup in my youth and this is what I’ve stuck to over the years.

Face:

  • Chanel double perfection Fluide in Beige - Great matte coverage, been using for years. It doesn’t look like you’re wearing a mask, something I had to live with before I found this gem. Love Chanel foundation!
  • Maybelline Expert Finishing Powder in Sand - Keeps shine at bay. The tiny pot is perfect for touchups during the day.
  • M.A.C. Platinum Bronze in Gorgeous Gold - Lovely soft tanned cheeks, great for focusing on cheekbones as well.
  • Bourjois Poudre Illuminatrice – Perfect for highlighting and smells so lovely. Tiny speckles of shimmer too. I use it on top of the cheekbones, down my nose bridge, eyebrow bone, and on special nights, at the inner corners of my eyes.

Eyes:

  • Maybelline Great Lash in Blackest Black – Still the best after all these years! Dark eyelashes are so seductive. It doesn’t smudge or clump at all! Truly great mascara!
  • i.d. Bare Escentuals Eyeshadows in Skyline and Celestine - This set of eyeshadows is for that perfect smokey eyes. Skyline is a dark plum, Celestine is a shimmery silver. I also use Skyline to line over my eyeliner in the days to keep it from smudging.
  • L’oreal Brow Stylist – Filling in what little eyebrow I have left HAHA! Over-plucking in my youth has made me quite hairless over there! The pencil stays on all day and looks natural, even though it’s a pencil.
  • Boujois liner Stylo in Brun – Perfect soft brown for me, looks natural, glies on smoothly. No smudging and stays on! Also affordable and so tiny, can fit anywhere.

Lips:

  • L’Oreal Glam Shine Lipstick in Sparkling Pink – The name explains it all. This is a bright, show stopping pink. So shiny with mini glitters. This is my HOT night look HAHA!
  • Lancome Rouge A Levres Attraction Lipstick in Rose – A nudish rose colors on simplier days.
  • Bobbi Brown Lipcolor in Brown – Neutral lips once again. A girl can’t have too many choices! ;)
  • Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips – Great bright lips color that plumps up the lips! You get a cool tingly feeling when this is on!

So, these are my tried and tested products I use almost daily. I do experiment with new brands and products, but this is the products that I always seem to come back too.

Beauty Fool: Thanks Michelle! And you aren’t old at all, silly girl! I’ve actually tried quite a few of what Michelle has in her makeup bag, such as Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips, Maybelline Great Lash, Bobbi Brown Lipcolor and M.A.C. bronzing powder (that I used to own before I dropped it) so I think this girl knows what she’s talking about!

I remember I had this feature on my old blog and it was really popular with my readers. I can understand why, it’s so much fun peaking into makeup bags – I always like to ask my friends if I can see what they use! So, I thought I’d re-create it here at Beauty Fool, and to start it off, I’ll post the contents of my makeup bag.

renee-makeup

This is my collection as of May 2009. No doubt I’ll add more to this collection, switch products, throw some away, etc, but this is what’s in my makeup bag right now and what I’ve been using for the past year or so. Hope you like it!

Face:

My face makeup has pretty much been the same ever since I started: the less on my face, the better. I normally put concealer on my (killer) under eye circles, and powder on my shiny areas.

  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – I have been using this for the last few months after hearing endless praises for it, and I am adding to those praises! I really like this product. However, this is an added ‘layer’ on my face that I don’t really need (at least for now) or want to spend money on; it’s just too expensive for me. Once this tube is done, it will be goodbye for now. Highly recommended, though. You can read a more in-depth review here.
  • Aubrey Organics Silken Earth Translucent Base Makeup – I use this to keep shine away and just to ‘set’ everything. I apply it to my cheeks and nose area, where I tend to get shine the most. It gives such a matte, clean look and I love how it’s all natural, so I feel much better about putting this on my skin – no irriations, breakouts, etc. You can read my other raves about it here.
  • Laura Mercier Secret Finish Concealer - Like I wrote in my review, I am currently using this but I feel that my other concealer, Boi-ing is much better. So when this one is done, I’ll go back to Boi-ing! Boi-ing covers my hideous dark eye circles wonderfully (review here).
  • M.A.C. Powder in Taupe – I’ve never been a big blush person, but I do use this for a little definition and color to my face – I am pale! I am looking for a new blush with actual color though (got my eyes on NARS Orgasm!).
