Fragrance

I am one very spoilt girl. I was invited to the launch of Chloe’s newest perfume, Love, Chloe, at the very beautiful presidental suite at the Fullerton Hotel. Seriously though, a picture paints a thousand words, so I dont have much to say… look at the place! Pure luxury.

It was a lovely Friday afternoon where we got to mingle, chat, and be introduced to Chloe’s latest offering. The fragrance is described as a “concentrate of emotions”, and was inspired by the intimacy of our personal beauty ritual, which I found really sweet – I think we all can relate to having a beauty ritual! ;)

Another week, another celebrity perfume… although, I have to say I’m really excited about Lolavie, Jennifer Aniston’s debut fragrance, due in English stores next month. (For US and the rest of the world, the release date is unknown yet.) The mysterious name is what first got me interested – what the heck does it mean? Unfortunately, those with the same questions might have to wait a little longer: “It’s a long story and honestly it’s too personal to tell. But it has special significance.”

Still, I’m excited. The reason? First, I’ll never forget Rachel from Friends – she was simply amazing as Rachel. Also, Jennifer Aniston doesn’t seem to endorse a lot – her last endorsement was L’Oreal back in the 1990s… so dare I say she actually endorses products she likes? How refreshing.

Just like Jennifer, Lolavie and its stunning ad campaign is free, natural and beautiful. Jennifer describes the scent as “A non-perfume perfume, sexy and clean. Floral, but not too flowery.” Thank goodness!

“I want people to go, ‘What is that? You smell great!’ But most of all I wanted it to smell natural,” she says.

I can’t wait to try this out. The bottle looks beautiful and classic, and I like how she describes it as a non-perfume perfume. Could we expect it to smell something like CLEAN fragrances? I hope so!

What do you think – just another celebrity fragrance or are you excited about trying out Lolavie?

Taking a shower might reap the same results, but having a perfume that makes you smell squeaky clean 24/7? Now that’s cool. I’ve sniffed some of CLEAN’s fragrances around at Sephora, being the busy body that I am, but I think I may actually have to stop being so annoying and actually purchase one … you know, when I actually get a paycheck.

CLEAN Perfume was launched by Fusion Brands Inc. in April 2003. Randi Shinder, the founder, desired a fragrance that was reminiscent of pure soap, that universal fresh out of the shower scent. Unable to find such a fragrance, she developed her own…CLEAN.

CLEAN is formulated in small quantities to ensure all ingredients are fresh, pure, and of the highest quality. CLEAN is a lifestyle brand that has expanded from its core CLEAN fragrance to encompass ancillaries that remain true to CLEAN’s promise of simplicity in a complicated world.

I am in love with Fresh Laundry. Or was it Shower Fresh? To be honest the names all muddle together with me, but the scents are just amazing. I think they capture exactly the scent they are describing in its name, and I’ve always like citrusy scents – they make you feel more alive! Fragrances range from US$38-$79, so it’s a bit much for a simple scent (who knew smelling clean would cost you that much money?) But I say it’s worth it.

If you like fresh, classic and clean (you knew it was coming) scents, I can already recommend this line to you! Do try it out at Sephora, I am sure you’ll love them. I know I do! (Another scent that has a very citrus, “clean” scent, try out one of my favorite all time perfumes, Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana.)

For those who have tried them out, what do you think? Do you like CLEAN’s perfumes or would just rather use good ole soap?

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is the latest celebrity to launch her own fragrance. Her fragrance is Pick of the Week because I am so curious to try it out. Also, I gotta say, I’ve seen some episodes of her show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and I kinda like her.

As I said previously in my post about her favorite makeup products and her dramatic hair color change last summer, I really like how she connects with her fans through her blog. She gives them exclusives photos and shares her tips and answers fan questions regularly on her blog and in videos – talk about being down to Earth! Gotta love that.

To start off the new year with a high, she has just launched her first “voluptuous” fragrance Kim Kardashian, and so far I’ve heard good things.

TV star, entrepreneur, model, actress, and trendsetter Kim Kardashian adds another accomplishment to her portfolio: a trademark fragrance. Discover the sensual scent inspired by one of the world’s most idolized women. The essence evokes Kim’s sultry style with crisp top notes, lush mid notes, and a sexy drydown.

Described as a floral scent, Kim wanted a scent that captures her perfectly. She tells OK! magazine: “It’s sexy and sultry, yet youthful. You could wear it both at night and during the day … it has a broad appeal.” Notes includes Honey Suckle, Pink Jasmine, Tuberose, Sensual Spice, Lush Gardenia, Vanilla Orchid, Sexy Musk and Creamy Sandalwood.

Will you be buying this scent? I’ll definitely try it out at the store but I personally don’t really like celebrity scents – something about them puts me off – so I’m probably not gonna like it. But we’ll have to see how it smells, I can’t judge too much! Am I being snobby or do you dislike celebrity scents as well?

van-cleef-and-arpels-feerie-fragrance

You know, I’m not one to submit to flashy advertising and pretty packag—

Alright, who am I kidding?

This perfume bottle and I are meant to be. Why? When I was a kid, every Christmas I’d dress up as a fairy! SEE? It’s a sign. I mean, totally. It was written in the stars and everything.

Alright I’ll stop being lame, but is this not the most beautiful perfume bottle you’ve ever seen?! Talk about the perfect interpretation of fantasy and magic in a perfume bottle – this is a total winner in my book.

In the words of Miranda Priestly… that’s all. I need to get my paws on this and write a review ASAP! :)

ysl-campaign-parisienne-kate-moss

Pardon my French, but what the hell. What is up with fragrance campaigns? They make me want to rush out and buy the scent, even though this one by Valentino will always be my true love. They are all so beautiful I want to make them into posters and stick them up on my wall (especially this campaign by Nina Ricci) and stare at it for more than 5 minutes. Parisienne by YSL is no exception. Kate’s smokey eyes, messy hair and that delicate rose are all telling me Bonjour. And that Eiffel tower. The LBD. Le sigh … Le everything. This ad is gorgeous, and Miss Moss (hehe, say it quick 10 times) still has it.

YSL-Parisienne-bottleParisienne is a scent that suits this eternal woman: she has personality, she is paradoxical, and she plays with convention. There is nothing obvious, only hints. This fragrance flows lovingly in a precious flacon, intricately carved like the labyrinth of Parisian streets, soft as the sheets she has just left behind, pink as the sky of a pale early morning, and as couture as the YSL label on black leather.

A beautiful presentation, just as Yves Saint Laurent dresses a Parisienne woman.

I saw the ad online and was determined to hunt it down at the department store, and shamelessly spray it all over myself.

I found out later that the target age was for women in their 30s, so I’m not sure I fit the target audience. However, when smelling this, the phrase “thirty and flirty” came to mind – it’s a flirty, floral fragrance. Notes include vinyl accord, cranberry, blackberry, damask rose, violet, peony, patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood and musk. I like to think that the women who suits this scent loves to have drinks after work (to which she’s the CEO of course), is self assured, confident, yet soft and feminine. In other words, I like it, but I wouldn’t buy it personally … I don’t feel like a ‘woman’ yet. I mean … I’m not a girl, not yet a woman (yes, I went there).

To my hard-working, amazing career lady readers, I think you’d love this. :)

I thought today it would be nice to talk about our signature scents, or a few of our favorites fragrances. :) Perfume is such an interest of mine because fragrance is so beautiful – there are so many memories I instantly go back to after I smell certain scents. I also think perfumes are a great, romantic and personal gift. I also love to look at the bottles – they are like artwork to me. I have a few perfumes that I like to rotate around, but I most definitely have a signature scent! Here are some of my favorites …

valentino-v-absolut-perfume

Valentino V Absolu

This is my signature scent. I think I sampled it in a Vogue when I was 18 (which means it was meant to be – I don’t remember ever buying a Vogue; must’ve been borrowed) and it smelt so warm and sexy I had to have it. Unfortunately I have heard it has recently been discontinued, but no matter – luckily for me I am crazy and obsessive, so once I found out I loved this scent I bought 2 bottles as back up. So according to my calculations, I can use this for at least 5 more years. It is vanilla based and was named one of the most ‘naughty, exotic scents’ (or something like that) in Allure, and sure enough, it is! It is vanilla based, my favorite scent, and has woody and floral notes. It smells like vanilla but a bit more exotic, and it just feels very ‘me’. I believe the best compliment I have gotten from it was ‘damn, you smell like a f***ing rose!’ which I think means it’s a success.

dolce-gabbana-light-blue-perfume

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

I mentioned in my review some time back that this was my very first fragrance. I believe I smelt it in Teen People magazine and was drawn to the super hot model in the ad campaign. My mom bought it for me right before I started high school – in my review I wrote I asked for it for Christmas, but I had gotten it earlier – so every time I smell it, it reminds me of school; being young, free and stupid. It is very citrus based and could smell like detergent to some, but it’s a very fresh scent. I like to spray it on when I’m going out in the afternoon or morning when the sun is shining; it’s such a happy, carefree scent. I also like to wear it when I am active and exercising – you know, those very rare moments. ;)

jean-paul-gaultier-classique-woman-perfume

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique

This was given to me on my 20th birthday by someone pretty special. It’s a very classic (you don’t say?!) evening scent, so I only wear it at fancy occasions. I don’t know how to explain it but it just smells very oriental and expensive. A little black dress and diamonds would go perfectly with this fragrance. I think the bottle captures the scent perfectly – it’s sexy, classy, stylish and womanly – how freaking gorgeous is it?! It looks amazing sitting on my shelf. I’ll always remember this ’cause it was given to me by my first love. Sigh … moving on!

prada-amber-pour-homme-perfume

Prada Amber Homme

I don’t have this scent but I have given it to a few of my male friends because it is just heavenly. Seriously, this is the best male fragrance there is, and sometimes when I’m at the department stores I just spray it on myself. Actually, I don’t know why I just shouldn’t buy it for myself – it’s that good. In fact, I love it so much that I am now claiming that my future husband will wear this and only this for the rest of his life … poor guy. But seriously, this is one sexy, weird – in a good way – scent. You can read more about it at my review, here.

the-body-shop-vanilla

The Body Shop Vanilla

Like I wrote above, I’ve always loved vanilla (especially ice cream) so a few years ago I wanted to hunt down a pure vanilla fragrance. The first shop I thought of was The Body Shop, since they have ranges for Lavender, Rose and all that jazz. The Body Shop here, however, sells every range of products except the Vanilla range, which I find very odd – who doesn’t love vanilla?! So when I was in Milan two years ago I bought it there, and it still is not even half way done! I love vanilla and this just smells so calm. I like to wear this on days I’m not ‘doing much’ like being very hip visiting the dentist or running errands. Sometimes I wear this to sleep because it’s so calming and warm.

ck-one-perfume

CK One

I only knew about this scent after an ex-boyfriend wore it religiously, and I love it. How he smelt was probably the only good thing about him, hehe. It was only a few months ago that I read about it’s history and wrote about it’s relaunch for this very iconic fragrance. I can tell why it’s still so popular too. It’s a fresh scent, effortlessly sexy and so ‘clean’. I might like it more than Light Blue – they are both similar in the sense they are fresh and clean, but perhaps CK One smells a little more sexy? I can’t decide. I love them all!

That’s my list of some of my favorite scents. There are so many new scents in the market that keep coming up and I’m interested in, but I’m a loyal girl (hehe) – I’ll probably stick to these forever. What are some of your favorite scents? And do you have a signature scent that is ‘you’? I’d love to hear, I really love fragrances! :)
