For Fun

Here’s a little something for the weekend. I’m not sure if this is a true story… but either way, bravo! Finally, an inspiring ad that doesn’t just say, “get sexy hair to look hot!” Any thoughts on this commercial?

Have a good weekend! :D

tara-p-henson

The beauty blogs are abuzzing over the beautiful Tara P. Henson (actress, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) who showed up at an event with loose powder still under her eyes.

A quick bit of info: loose powder is normally put under your eyes before applying heavy eye makeup, so that if any makeup falls, the loose powder ‘catches’ any mistakes, that you can sweep off after applying all your eyemakeup. (As opposed to applying your makeup and having mascara or eyeshadow spilling down to your cheeks, which is harder to remove).

This photo made me think of any makeup and beauty mishaps you’ve ever had. We talked about our past beauty mistakes, but what about mistakes you knew nothing about?

The only thing I can remember is that long ago (before I met Virtuose, the love of my life) my mascara would always run down my face. One particular night I came home to find a big blob or black mascara under my right eye, which was then smudged alittle down my cheek. I was at a gathering and photos were taken, so I asked my then boyfriend why didn’t he tell me about it, but apparently guys really are clueless, because he didn’t even notice it. D’oh! Embarassing indeed.

Anyway, back to Tara – who’s to blame? Her makeup artist for forgetting, or herself? Who doesn’t take a quick look in the mirror before they go to an important event? Yikes!

What are some beauty mishaps that has happened to you? Any funny stories to share? :)

Has anyone ever pointed out a physical feature and assume something about you? I remember being told never to trust a man with thin lips because they are cunning and manipulative – is that ridiculous or does it actually hold some truth?

Physiognomy (I can’t say it either), or face reading is pretty popular here – there are centers where you can get your face read to discover your ‘inner self’ or something along those lines. I’m pretty curious so I did my research and it’s extremely interesting… Let me know what you think!

Where this study came from is unknown (some say Greece, India, and China), and in the 19th Century Victorian times, face reading was practiced by criminologists with the assumption that certain facial features on someone may make them more prone to breaking the law! According to physiognomy, different parts of your face reveal different aspects of your character and personality. Some also believe any ‘complications’ that you are having on the face could show what’s going on internally, like the image above.

  • Forehead: Your way of thinking
  • Eyes: Shows insight on how open you are to life experiences
  • Nose: Work and how you deal with money
  • Mouth: How expressive you are
  • Lips: How sensual you are
  • Chin: Your level of assertiveness
  • Ears: How you interact with others

Believe it or not – those with cosmetic surgery can count their ‘new’ feature as their own, as cosmetic surgery is believed to change your luck.

If I’m being very honest, with all due respect, I find this a bit silly, but none the less it is quite interesting and some are eerily correct! Grab a photo of yourself that is a frontal face shot (or look in the mirror as you read this) and see what your features tell you about yourself. They differ for men and women, so I have also added face reading for men so you can go an analyze your boyfriends too. :-P

10 Things About Me

September 1, 2009   in Diary, For Fun

pols

SzeLing recently tagged me in a tag called ‘I think you’re an awesome girl’ (thank you!) where I have to list 10 random facts about myself. I’ve never done a tag before, but I thought this would be great because if you have read my about page, all I say about myself is my age, where I live, and that I’m a student. Bor-ing! So I thought I’d share more about me. :) Here goes:

maldives1. I have a strange obsession with The Maldives. I don’t know why I have such a fascination with the place, but blue water and clear skies sound pretty good to me. The fact that it’s sinking makes it even more … urgent. I need to go soon! Every computer screen I come into contact with has a desktop image of the Maldives.

2. I have had a very big variety of pets: countless fish tanks, an army of hamsters (one gave birth and ATE her babies after), sea monkeys and … eels. No idea where I got the idea to have pet eels, but they were cute! I currently have a dog, Jeri.

3. I tried every instrument in the world until I was 14 and bought a guitar, which I stuck with until now. I suck, but that doesn’t matter – I love music and love playing it.

the-left-banke-walk-away-renee4. I love my name! My Mom named me after the song, ‘Walk Away Renee‘ by The Left Banke. She heard it when she was 11, loved it, and vowed to name her daughter Renee. I’m also pretty sure she had a crush on the singer. It’s a French name that means “re-birth”, which I really like. Also, I was extra glad about my name when my Mom told me what my Dad wanted to name me. No offense Dad, but that name … no. Hell no!

5. I’m a Christian. I recently found my faith again – did a lot of soul searching this year – and I am so glad I did. I have never felt so fulfilled, complete and whole. My spirit has been lifted.

6. I can eat spaghetti for the rest of my life and never get bored. Actually, make that anything Italian. :)

7. I can’t stand the cold. I’m the one always wearing a cardigan! In shopping malls, the bus, wherever – I have my warm hoodie and look ridiculous, because this country is h-o-t.

beautyfoolmini8. I have loved writing all my life, and Beauty Fool is like my baby, you have no idea how much I love it! I can only hope one day, perhaps, I can make it a full time job.

9. Every time I hear the name Avril Lavigne I shudder – not because I have anything against her; but I used to be called ‘Avril’ all the time in high school and it was unbelievably annoying. Apparently I looked like her since I have straight brown hair, love eyeliner, and wore skate shoes in school. I didn’t know she owned these things?! I thought it would be over after high school, but I still get it from strangers now and again. Sigh … I don’t see it?!

10. I’m Eurasian. My dad is Danish and my mom is Chinese.

Alright, that’s all from me! I hope you found some stuff vaguely interesting and enjoyed this post. I am tagging any of my readers who have a blog and would like to do this! If you do this tag, please post your link in a comment so I can check it out; it’d be awesome to know more about my readers. :-D

Wise Words from Paris Hilton

August 2, 2009   in For Fun

paris-hilton-quote

I‘ve decided that every Sunday I should post up an inspiring quote to start off the new week! Er … let’s start things off with these fine words, shall we?! (Don’t worry, it won’t be like this in the future – just thought this was too hilarious not to post!)

Oh Pam. I think you’re beautiful but this makeup is just wrong!

I was reading a post at Beauty Savvy called Makeup Sins and it reminded me of a post I wanted to write ages ago.

Instead I’ve written a little of my horror stories on relating posts but I think it would be great to post not only all my makeup sins, but beauty sins in general.

Here are some of my tragic beauty mishaps I’ve done in the past:

  • Curled my lips inwards when I smiled for pictures until I was about 10 because I was painfully shy. All my pictures during that time looked weird and like I had no mouth (and I have a big one, apparently). Gotten over that, thank goodness! Spoiled a lot of nice pictures, though. Look at that, it’s already on my blog – you can kinda see what I mean here.
  • When I was 9 I decided I wanted to have a boy cut and went to the salon and they cut all my hair off – it was 1 inch long! After that, I trimmed my own hair and bangs ’til I was about 13 or 14. There are no words, my hair was hideous.
  • Ah, high school – the best time of my life. Not. Beauty insaneness included heavily rimmed black eyeliner in high school, especially the waterline. I don’t have big eyes, so this made my eyes look even more smaller. Paired with bright red eyeshadow because I was in a “punk” phase and thought it was so “cool”. Hair wise, I had it all: bright orange, jet black, light brown, red, gold – all at home hair color mistakes in high school. (Can you tell I was weird in high school?)  I’m happy to report I stopped all that nonsense once I left.
  • Probably my biggest beauty ‘regret’: my teeth. My dentist told me since I was 6 that I had “Class A” teeth and that I can should do toothpaste commercials! My teeth modeling dreams all went out the window when I started biting my nails at 13. For 5 years I constantly had my fingers in my mouth, causing a little dent to my two front teeth and the three on the bottom. I have stopped, but the damage is done. :(

Seems like all my ridiculous-ness had to do a lot with hair and strangely, my mouth?! Oh well – it’s funny to think back and look at those crazy photos! What are some of your past beauty mistakes? I’d love to hear – this should be fun! :-)

I think Tyra Banks is gorgeous and I really admire her – she’s one smart business woman and her days as a model, were, in her word: FIERCE!

However, I can’t help but wonder about her recent hair style at this year’s Met Ball. I know they really like to go all out at this event, but what do you guys think? (In case you have no idea what I’m talking about – it’s that croissant on her head!)

So ladies: fierce or just plain crazy?

(Remember, no criticizing people personally here – we’re just here to talk about her hair choice.)
