Eyes

There has been a craze in Asia lately (by lately I mean the last few years) about circle contact lenses, made to make your iris’ look larger, and therefore give you a wide-eyed look. And no – Lady Gaga in the above picture is not wearing them, but sometimes I see some girls who do circles lenses so over the top it reminds me Lady Gaga’s digitally altered look. :/

Whilst looking for images on circle lenses, I also stumbled upon this article from the NY Daily News that shed some light on how dangerous these circles may be:

Circle lenses, which make eyes look bigger by covering not only the iris but part of the whites, can reportedly cause serious eye problems, or worse, blindness, says the U.K. Daily Mail.

“There literally is potential for somebody to lose their vision within 24 hours from an infection,” Dr. Assumpta Madu of the Montefiore Medical Centre in New York told the BBC.

The circle lenses can deprive the eyes of oxygen because they cover the whites of the eyes, according to Yahoo! News. The specialty lens can also scratch the cornea of the eye and leave permanent damage if not properly fitted by an optometrist.

Circle lenses often do not come with guidelines on their longevity or use. Therefore, users may injure their eyes by wearing them daily. Improper care in cleaning and storing the lens may also cause eye damage, reports Yahoo! News.

Personally, I think they are fine but I see some girls who take the ‘doll’ look a little too far – making them look like possessed dolls! So for those who do it over the top, and with the potential risk factors, this is a definite ‘crazy’ for me.

So, I want to ask – what do you think about circle lenses? Crazy, cool, ridiculous or the best invention, like, ever? Also, have you used them personally? I’d love to hear from those who have. :)

Those who ‘suffer’ from straight eyelashes would know that eyelash curlers are a Godsend. Personally, my lashes tend to quite literally take after my mixed heritage: half my eyelashes are straight and point down, while the other half are long and have a natural curl. Can you say annoying?! (This picture showcases this annoyance perfectly!)

However, there is a trick to allow your lashes to curl easier. To get a little extra ‘lift’ that lasts, grab your hairdryer and blow the eyelash curler for 30 seconds before using it. The heat will allow your lashes to bend more easily. But as always, be gentle when gripping your eyelash curler. To make sure the curler doesn’t get too hot and burn your lids, hold the dryer at least a foot away and ‘fan’ it up and down so it gives it a chance cool down a bit. Next, apply your mascara as quickly as possible to hold your curly lashes, and then bat them silly. ;)

Simple, no? And it works so well! Has anyone tried this trick before?

Not really a regular ‘crazy or cool‘ post (comparing to trend like pastel-colored eyebrows and black lipstick, of course!) but I wanted to know your thoughts on this eyeshadow application.

So… applying eyeshadow all the way to your eyebrows – is it crazy or cool? Have you ever done this before? I personally haven’t and don’t plan to anytime soon. I like to keep my shadow a little past my crease and know for sure if I extended it to my eyebrows, I’d look mad! But for this lovely model (at the Derek Lam Fall fashion show) and for some others, it really works and looks great… just not on me. It’ll be a ‘crazy’ for me this time ’round!

OK spill – how do you normally do your eyeshadow? :) Would you ever apply it all the way to your eyebrows?

Random fact about myself: If I see a cupcake, I must eat it. So with The Body Shop’s latest collection very beautifully done up to look like a cupcake stand… I couldn’t resist.

Baked makeup is not new, but The Body Shop has come up with a range that is sure to have you itching for one of their goodies. The Baked to Last collection is handmade in Italy by local artisans and baked in small batches for 24 hours, to ensure that the pigments are bound together to create a smooth sheen of color. This collection also boasts strong pigments that are long lasting, filled with ingredients such as Community Trade organic oil olive from Italy and marula oil form Namibia.

I had seen the beautiful images for this collection on some other blogs beforehand, so I was excited when I was invited for a nice cozy afternoon at The Body Shop where TBS introduced the latest collection. I was allowed to try out some of the makeup from the new collection, and I must say I already have some favorites. I even got a makeover with products from the new collection, so I could see first hand how the products worked. (Unfortunately, I have no pictures to show you – this was right before I went to Phuket and I accidently wiped out my memory card before my flight, thinking I’d make room for holiday pics. I had totally forgotten about all the pictures inside, which also included some of my beloved late pet. :( Ugh!)

Anyway. The Baked to Last collection offers 8 eyeshadow pans, each with two colors – a lid color and a deeper color for the outer corners or for eye-lining. It can be used dry or wet, depending on your desired intensity. I tried out the deepest color, Jade, a gorgeous deep green/ turquoise. It reminds me of a mermaid and I think it especially looks great on those with deeper colored eyes – it really made my brown eyes pop! The pigmentation was also good and it has a nice shimmer that’s not too out there (I normally cannot stand shimmer) and I’ve used the eyeshadow wet as a eyeliner and the color is so intense it looks like liquid eyeliner. Good enough for me, you know I adore eyeliner. ;)

Oh boy. Talk about dying and going to eyeshadow heaven! This palette from Coastal Scents has been quite a hit within the online beauty world, and it was only a few weeks ago that I decided to buy it and see what all the fuss is about. And I am so glad I did!

First of all, the price is amazing. You’re getting 88 shadows for about 20 bucks (!!!), so it’s already really afforable and worth the price. Yes, the colors are dime sized (how often do you finish a whole eyeshadow pot, anyway?) and there are a few ‘misses’ and chalky colors… but overall, it’s a really great palette. The lighter, matte shades are hard to show up on the skin so they aren’t too great, but the others are perfect. The colors are really pigmented and bold, and lasts on your lids. (My biggest eyeshadow pet peeve is that it disappears before dessert!)

What’s great about the 88 Color palette is that you have endless color combinations and looks to play with, which is one of the reasons I wanted to buy this palette… I’m gonna start doing some looks here on Beauty Fool! I love makeup but to be honest I haven’t been too experimental – I’ve worn eyeliner since the day I discovered it and my favorite ‘look’ is smokey eyes, which is basically black and very safe. So lookout for some tutorials. ;) (If you have any requests, let me know… there’s so many looks, I don’t know where to start!)

In the meantime, there’s not so much to say about this palette except that if you’re into color, experimenting and want something affordable, I would highly recommend this palette, I really adore it! I think I’ll end here with some photos for you to drool at…. ;)

Due to my holiday the past week, I’ve skipped not one, but two (!!!) Beauty Tip of the Week posts and I apologize! I’ve missed it too much, it’s my favorite type of post to write. Hopefully, this tip will be so useful that you’ll forgive me. ;)

This week I thought that I’d share some of my tips on eyeliner, my all time favorite makeup. Plus, I stumbled upon the image above and was so inspired, I knew I had to write about it – seriously, now that is what I call eyeliner. (By the way, does anyone know who the model is? She’s gorgeous!)

Though I’ve been using eyeliner for almost 7 years now and consider myself to be pretty good at it, when I started out I had no idea what I was doing – drawing a straight line on your upper lash line is harder than it looks! Thankfully, I once read about this tip to make the application easier and of course I’m going to share it with you.

For beginners to eyeliner (or those with shaky hands), draw several dots across your top lash line, as close to your lashes as possible. Next, play ‘connect the dots’ with short strokes to join them, making it a full line. And don’t worry if it’s not perfect – take a Q Tip and softly smudge the line so it blends nicely. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be applying eyeliner like a pro in no time!

Have you ever tried this method before? If you haven’t I really recommend you try it out – it really makes it easier to apply a straighter line. :) (And if you want even more eyeliner tips, check out my post Makeup 101 – How to Apply Eyeliner!)

Forget about a subtle brand logo at the corner of your eye glasses – what about on your actual eyeball?! I chanced upon this product and knew I had to post. Though it’s been out for some time, I only heard about this now and from what I can tell they are still in production. Plus, we haven’t had a ‘Crazy or Cool‘ post in awhile!

Christian Dior, most famous for its haute couture clothes, handbags, makeup and the bestselling perfume J’adore, is to put its distinctive logo in a more unusual place: eyes.

The fashion house has come up with two sets of contact lenses, designed by John Galliano for the Dior Eyes range. The lenses will create the illusion of either a golden or a black ring around the iris. They will also contain a miniature CD logo.

The contact lenses are available in two sets, and each pair will create the illusion of either a golden or a black ring around the iris, said to “encircle the iris and dramatize the eyes.”

While I can understand the thought behind it – for one, colored contact lenses are especially popular in Asia – I am unsure about these. I have no problem with colored contact lenses and I’m all for having a brand logo on the product, but to add a ‘CD’ logo on your iris? I feel it’s a bit too much… talk about being ‘label-mad’! :-P

What do you think? Would you wear designer contact lenses?
