Here’s a little fun fact about my place of birth and residence, Singapore: Orchid’s are our national plant. Another fact: many species have become extinct, so it’s time to conserve our beautiful flowers! Beauty brand Clarins and TANGS have joined the National Parks to bring you “Orchids: A Conservation Story”, to promote the conservation of our rare species in Singapore.

From last weekend ’til June 3rd, Orchard Road (ha!) has been transformed into an orchid paradise, which I think is awesome – I love Orchids and have some at in my own home, as well. :)

To play their part, TANGS has teamed up with Clarins and National Parks to help conserve the rare native orchid species in Singapore by planting a Tiger Orchid (pictured above, isn’t it beautiful?) in front of TANGS, as well as a donation of $10,000 from TANGS and Clarins to the Orchid Conservation Fund. Donations are also welcome from the public, just simply go to a TANGS counter.

Once upon a time (3.5 weeks ago), in a land far, far, away (tiny island of Singapore), there was …. Alright, ignore my dramatic introduction. Basically, the very lovely The Body Shop (TBS) hosted a private media launch for the online beauty media in Singapore. The Body Shop is launching their very first organic skincare range and TBS kindly invited some of us along to meet, try out, and chat about the new range. We even got a tour of TBS offices and it’s pretty darn cool!

First, we were greeted with a goody bag full of the range, (I’ve been trying them out and will have a full review up pretty soon!). Next, we chatted and ate some snacks while watching TBS’ promo video for the new skincare range. A TBS employee volunteered to be the model for the presentation, while the heads at TBS spoke about the TBS brand, the new skincare range, and showed us how to apply each product, while telling us what they do.

After that, we took a tour of the office, and here we all are in front of an in-house shop, where they test out store display concepts.

Left to right: Diana from Adore Beauty, YouTube Makeup Guru Wiwit Anggun, Myself, Christy from Beaute Runway and Sesame from Viva Woman. It was really great to meet them all, and I can confidently say we had a good afternoon, right ladies? ;) And thanks Wiwit for this awesome group pic!

Overall, I had a great time – it’s nice that TBS took the time to make a whole event for the online world … blogs are finally getting recognized as ‘media’, which I’m ecstatic about! Thank you TBS for the invite, was really honored to be noticed as one of Singapore’s beauty “go-to” online. :) Review coming very soon!

Last week I attended a media event for Bliss Spa, an extremely popular spa chain in the States, to let all of you know that Bliss has now been launched here in Singapore, and to entice you with some of their awesome services…!

Bliss was founded in 1996 and quickly grew – today, there are 16 Bliss spas worldwide, including the USA, Hong Kong, London, and now, the sunny island of Singapore.

Bliss Spa Singapore is it’s first foray in a Sephora store (the Sephora here is the largest in Asia!) and is tucked away in the giant beauty store. And don’t worry – it’s in its own complete area, so there are no shoppers or crowds anywhere near the place – it is quiet and peaceful and feels so cozy and warm; I can really see myself hanging out here a lot!

The spa offers services such as waxing, facials, body treatments and nail care. Bliss also retails its bath, body and skin care lines, which is available to purchase inside the spa, as well as outside on shelves in Sephora.

Bliss Spa Singapore is located at Sephora in ION, 2 Orchard Turn 01-05/06, ION Orchard, Singapore 238801. Their number is 6509 3511, do check them out sometime!

Here is a sneak peak into their new services:

  • The Ginger Rub, a heavenly massage that consists of a rub of freshly-grated ginger root  and warm detoxifying essential oils, a 20 min warming foil wrap, and then a 75 min massage. (Damn! Me want.)
  • ‘Pedi’ Colada, a treatment including a pineapple-infused coconut milk soak, a stredded coconut scrub, a soothing massage and a pedicure – all while sipping a virgin pina colada.
  • Double Choc Pedicure is a true chocolate fete for your feet. It starts with a hot chocolate milk skin-smoothing soak, then a shin-sloughing sugar scrub, and finishes off with a pedicure, again, while enjoying a chocolate treat.

Don’t they sound great? I have to get a Ginger Rub ASAP!

I was very excited to be invited – as a VIP apparently, and almost squealed when I saw my cute little name tag, pictured on the right! The event included a briefing about the spa, some mingling, and fun and games for us to win products and services.

Here I am at the entrance side, looking very impatient for the event to begin! The spa is so cute and youthful – there’s nothing ‘holier than thou’ or pretentious about the place, and it really is a wonderful place for any girl, whether it’s an afternoon with the best friends or a quick ala carte service for those of us who want something quick.

Two weeks ago, I attended my very first beauty event (cue the excitement…!!!), that was the launch of Skin Ceuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex eye cream. It was wonderful to be a part of a ‘media’ event, and the room buzzed with all sorts of PR and writers. I also recognized a few editors and writers, whose work I’d been reading for the past few years, so that was exciting.

It was good timing too – now that I’m 21 I think I should start with the anti-aging products, and you should all know about my panics of aging (especially mentally), so I was very eager to go to the event and learn about the aging process. There were two presentations on aging and … it ain’t pretty. Apparently when you age your feminine hormone lowers, so you can expect mustaches in the future. Yes, a mustache. The girls and I shuddered as we heard that.

Dr. Karen Soh is an aesthetic and anti-aging physician, so it was nice to educate myself about our skin and what happens when it ages! She has been trained in all aspects of aesthetic medicine such as lasers, fillers, Botox, Restylane, and much more. She also offers various aesthetic treatments at the Pacific Wellness Center, where the event was held. I’ll be going back in a week’s time to see Dr. Soh, so more info on that later. One point I remember Dr. Soh pointed out was that one of the worse factors of physical aging is smoking (I told ya!), so I was happy that I seemed to know what I was talking about. The above photo is me and Dr. Karen Soh.

The presentation also talked about Skin Ceuticuals new A.G.E. Eye Complex Eye Cream, and showed us some pretty impressive before and after pictures – I was especially intrigued at the before-and-after of the dark eye circles, because, as you know, dark circles and I are best friends who secretly hate each other. I’m still adamant on the fact that eye creams don’t work for me and these damn circles are here for life, but it’s always worth a try, no? The presentation ended off with a live-demo of an eye area treatment massage, which looked nothing short of heavenly.

Advanced Glycation End-products (A.G.E.) are the seeds of intrinsic aging that contributes to sagging, crackling and thinning of the skin. The A.G.E. Complex eye cream from Skin Ceuticals is formulated for those with mature skin (45+ years old) to prevent glycation and to combat the other processes of intrinsic aging.

AGE EYE COMPLEX

I’ve been using the A.G.E. Eye Complex eye cream for a week or two, even though I think I’m a little under the target audience. Although I haven’t seen much results yet, it does seem promising. Application-wise, it’s painfully easy to use, and is very cooling on the skin. There is a slight tingling feeling which I liked as well, although I’m not sure what the tingling might mean.

Like I said, I’m not sure if I can ‘test’ its effects in such a short time, but from the presentation they did have some impressive looking before and after photos, so only time will tell! So far, it’s a nice eye cream. The only one I can compare it to is Clinique’s All About Eyes, and I feel A.G.E. feels more ‘concentrated’.

To sum it up, the event was a success in my humble opinion! I learnt a lot and met some really nice people. The atmosphere was great and the location was perfect – it was like a whole other calm, serene world tucked away in the busy city. Really loved it, thanks Mei Yan and Eileen for inviting me to my very first media event. :)
