Celebrity Looks

Well, it’s official: get yourself a rockstar dad and a supermodel mom and you will win the genetic lottery. (Just ask Liv Tyler!) And now, there’s a new up and coming supermodel who I find absolutely stunning: Georgia Jagger.

(And is it just me or is she sporting the pastel-colored hair trend in this picture? Loves it!)

Georgia Jagger is the daughter of The Rolling Stone’s frontman Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall, and she caught my eye in a magazine – I just love her unique beauty. And those lips! She spilled some of her beauty and makeup secrets to Cleo Australia and I had to share – she’s not only beautiful but she’s got some sound advice!

Firstly, she shares what it’s like being a model (she’s a model for Hudson Jeans, Versace and Rimmel): “I’ve never really thought about being a role model – I’m still coming to terms with all that has happened work-wise. I’m glad that I can represent a sort of goofy imperfection.” And what was the one modeling tip her mom and sister, fellow model Elizabeth Jagger, gave her? “They told me to moisturize!”

And though Georgia is a veteran at red lips, (when asked what her all time favorite product is, she says, “lipstick, as long as it’s red”), she still has some makeup mishaps: “I’ve learnt how to smudge my eye makeup, but I still can’t put on fake eyelashes without them ending up on my forehead!”

Still, Georgia knows that at her young age (she’s 18!) less is more to show your real beauty. “I think if you wear too much makeup when you’re a young girl, it can make you look overdone.” So how does she get ready on a night out? “I start with clothes because I spend so little time on my makeup and usually end up doing it in the car.” And what about her all time beauty staples, other than red lipstick? “Liquid eyeliner and smudgy pencils. Oh, and Vivienne Westwood perfumes.”

What I really loved about the article is her sound beauty advice – like Marilyn Monroe who believes “imperfection is beauty“, so does Georgia: “I’m not stick thin or really tall and my teeth is a bit messed up, but I think that’s OK. I don’t want to be perfect, it’s impossible. I love it when girls are happy in their own skin. They look great no matter what shape – even if they have a wonky nose. You have to make the best of what you’ve got, right?” Amen! She sure is wise for a 18 year old, no? Beauty and brains – something to celebrate, for sure.

What do you think of this supermodel in the making? Isn’t she gorgeous?! :) She does red lips perfectly, so I had to add this picture of her in a recent beauty tip of the week post!

Like the rest of the world, going to the cinema and watching a movie is one of my favorite things to do with my friends. And though I’m not really into celebrity gossip, I do scour style blogs for fashion inspiration from red carpet events… but you all know I’m looking at the makeup looks more than anything! ;)

Anyway, the recent MTV Movie Awards brought copious amounts of posts on the red carpet looks … but it’s time to talk makeup! Here are some of my favorite beauty looks.

Once again, my girl crush of the century Kristen Stewart takes home best hair and makeup for me. She seems to be doing a subtle version of her signature eye makeup that I adore on her and it always works for her – it always brings out her beautiful eye color. And I have to give her long ponytail some love – I’m a ponytail girl, so I really love this look! A messy, casual ponytail makes your ‘formal’ attire look a little more casual and effortlessly chic. Bah… there are no words – perfection!

I admit that I didn’t love Vicky Christina Barcelona like everyone else, but you can’t deny that Scarlett is a beauty. She’s back to blonde (and I think I prefer her best at blonde, but who’s asking!) and the color really compliments her complexion. Her makeup is really simple with strong definition on her eyes, which I really like. And I spy with my little eye… is that Nars Orgasm on her cheeks?! This is probably the perfect date makeup – the hair and makeup is effortlessly sexy.

It’s finally here – happy summer! I just caught Dear John, starring Amanda Seyfried and while I admit to shedding a few (dozen) tears, I was most of all captured by Amanda’s ethereal beauty. (Off topic: I liked the movie but it wasn’t as good as The Notebook. What did you think of Dear John?)

Anyway, Amanda is the latest covergirl of Teen Vogue – and is this not the most perfect summer photo shoot you’ve ever seen?! She looks beautiful. I’m really inspired by the summer look too: fluffy tied up hair, tons of mascara and a full watermelon/coral pout. Seems like Bobbi Brown was on to something this summer with her coral color collection!

What summer ‘looks’ are your favorite? :)

Anyone who’s ever picked up a magazine should know supermodel Jessica Stam (or, anyone’s who read this post). She is a Canadian SUPERmodel and if you look at the definition of “fierce” in the dictionary, you’ll see her face. (Sorry Tyra.) Jessica revealed to Style.com, Vogue’s online home all about what’s in her makeup bag and I just had to share!

DJ, model, and current Chanel ambassador Leigh Lezark is the latest It Girl, and everyone (especially me) is loving her dark, gothic looks. She recently spilled to ELLE UK about her favorite beauty products, and of course I had to type it up for you!

Though Leigh admits she doesn’t always follow the number one makeup rule and remove all her makeup every night, she does practice a very strict skincare regime: ”To make up for bad habits, I use an exfoliator and cleansing masks once or twice a week to keep my skin fresh. Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque by Kiehl’s is ideal.”

For the nights when she does remember to remove her makeup, “I’d recommend using moisturizer as a makeup remover. I’ve been using Beauty Fluid by Olay for years.”

Leigh’s finishes off her makeup talk by her favorite product, blush. ”I always wear blush to lift my complexion. At the moment, I’m using Les Tissages de Chanel in Tweed Sienna, by Chanel along my cheekbones, then adding a pop of Powder Blush in Narcisse, also by Chanel.”

And though Leigh prides herself in the attention she puts to her makeup, her famous locks does not get much. Leigh admits, “my hair gets lots of attention from the press, but not from me.” She dyes the roots every 3 weeks (she’s a natural blonde and hates when the roots come out because “it looks as if I’m going bald”) and does some mild styling.

Her favorite hair products are Stay Cool Heat Defense by Charles Worthington Front Row and her styling trick is to “blow dry my hair upside down”, which is a great tip – blowing your hair upside down is also great for volume, as I also wrote on my post 8 Ways to Get More Volume in Your Hair.

The very gorgeous Charlize Theron (and Academy Award winning actress, thank you very much) was featured in January’s issue of Glamour where she spilled her beauty tips. (While we’re at it, how gorgeous is the cover with Katy Perry on it? I love all the color and Katy’s dress and makeup is to die for – such a flirty, cute Valentine’s Day look!)

Anyway, back to Charlize – I really love these types of features, that they actually dare to admit that their looks are thanks to makeup, and dare to share exactly what they use. (How annoying is it when a celebrity non chalantly says everything you see is natural? Please. That’s why I really like Kim Kardashian – she spills it all!) It makes them seem very much down to Earth.

First and foremost, Charlize recognizes the number one skin care tip, one she learned from her mom: “Sunblock. She never left the house without it. For most of my life, I’ve been diligent about applying it to my face.” For cleansing her face, Charlize loves the drugstore brand Cetaphil (my review on the product here).

For her hair, Charlize loves Kiehl’s Tea Tree Oil shampoo. “I love it because I color my hair and my scalp gets dry. It really moisturizes.” She also knows the importance of keeping your hair free from damage, a tip I wrote about on preventing split ends and further damage: laying off the styling tools. “When I’m not working, I don’t use a blow-dryer, so you’ll see me running around with wet hair. It I give my hair a break from heat, it does really well.”

For makeup, Charlize likes to show off her natural beauty. Her makeup looks are always timeless and classic, with shades of golds to frame her beautiful blue eyes. Still, she has learnt to experiment and play with makeup looks. “I’ve become more experimental with my makeup – I even wore fuschia lips to a screening recently. I never used to do anything like that!”

Still, she keeps her face makeup fresh and light: “I don’t like foundations that are cakey or heavy – you see them on top of your skin. I use loose luminescent powder instead of compact.” (For more info on types of foundation for your skin type, check out this post.)

Of course, Charlize’s fragrance of choice is J’Adore by Christian Dior, where she is the current face of the ad campaign. She says of the iconic fragrance, “There’s something adventourous about J’Adore – it reminds me of traveling.” Traveling in a private jet, I suppose – just look at the bottle! It screams class.

Her favorite makeup product of all? Something we can all get ourselves at our local drugstore: “Cherry ChapStick!”

Do you agree with any of Charlize’s beauty tips? What do you think of her product recommendations? :)

I really need to stop getting girl crushes… But I can’t help looking at their amazing hair and makeup styles! First Alexa Chung’s style, Kristen Stewart’s eye makeup, and now Hayley Williams of Paramore’s hair and makeup – all great girls who have amazing style that I admire … OK, am totally jealous of.

I’ve loved Paramore for some time now and was really impressed with their new album, Brand New Eyes, and when I saw the music video for my fave song, Ignorance, I gasped. I love Hayley’s bright red hair and strong eye makeup, so I had to post. Also, let’s just be honest – the girl is beautiful.

Skin

Hayley did a guest blog post on Seventeen.com all about her beauty secrets, and she especially wrote about her skin and hair. For her skincare regime, she uses the La Roche Posay skin care line and Elta SPF 45 sunscreen everyday. She says though these products are costly, they are worth it because her skin has never felt better – it got really bad from the stress and lifestyle of touring. Plus, she adds, “I’m obsessed with skin.”

Hair

Hayley has sported various hair colors such as red hair, blonde hair, orange, black… and looks amazing with all of them.

Personally I love red the best,(thanks for asking) but whatever color you are planning to dye your hair to, here are some tips; especially because it’s such a bright color:

  • First and foremost, I know it’s boring, but read the instructions on the box. With subtle colors you can afford to make mistakes, but not with bright reds and oranges! Read the instructions carefully and be informed on all the steps.
  • Start off by applying Vaseline all around your hairline to keep it from running down your skin.
  • Apply the haircolor gel with a comb carefully, making sure you don’t miss out any bits.
  • Wrap your hair in a cap for however long the hair color box advises.

For those with darker hair colors, I’m afraid the dreaded bleach will be needed. If that’s the case, I highly advise taht you go to a hairsalon and get it done properly instead of at home. Ask your stylist for tips on how to keep the color bright, and how to ‘update’ your roots at home.

Hayley advises that the way she gets at least 3 weeks of solid bright color is to “try to part from the shower a few days…liberate yourself. Use Johnson’s baby powder or Bumble and Bumble’s hair powder (which comes in a few different colors) in the roots to keep your hair looking full and (sorta) clean between washes.” She then washes her hair with color-safe shampoo in freezing cold water.

To style her hair, Hayley uses Redken wax and to keep her hair in good condition, she uses Redken Extreme Anti-Snap leave-in conditioner. (Good choice too, I love it and highly recommend it as well!)

As for her haircut, it seems to have remained the same for a few years. Ask your stylist for a mid-length cut (just above your chest), long, choppy layers, and a side-swept bang … et voila! Rock and roll! Now on to my favorite topic …
