Want to rub Brad Pitt all over youself in the shower?

You wish!

You can, however, get the next best thing: Brad Pitt has partnered up with Kiehl’s to release Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser; and even though it’s been out for awhile, I still feel it’s worthy of a mention because it looks like an awesome product in so many ways.

The body cleanser is the very first formula made of 100% biodegradable ingredients for the brand. An earth friendly product, it is made in a 100% post consumer recycled bottle, and is free of parabens, SLS and dyes.

The best bit is that 100% of the profits made from this product will go to JPF Eco Systems, an environmental charity. “Kiehl’s formulated this product to minimize the impact we have on our environment. All proceeds will go to benefit green initiatives around the globe,” Brad explains.

So, to recap – good product for you, good product for Earth, and good product for charity! Everyone wins.

Guess where I was (last last) Thursday? Apart from dealing with migraines the whole week, I had a pampering spa day at SkinLab Medical Spa. To be honest, it came at a perfect time – I really needed to relax!

SkinLab Medical Spa is the culmination of the vision, dynamism and expertise of two doctors; Dr Kelvin Chua and Dr Frank Lee who wanted to integrate the pampering, attentive yet unobtrusive service of a world class spa with the most advanced, non-invasive medical techniques to provide effective beauty solution to treat mind, body and soul.

The dedicated team of SkinLab always works with the utmost professionalism and the greatest respect for each and every individual, promising a feeling of tranquility, serenity and relaxation. (You can say that again – never felt so relaxed in my life!)

I got a mini tour of the place and it was really impressive. I love that everything was ‘white’ and there were hair salon, a lounge area, jacuzzis, steam room and 27 treatment rooms. There were even specialized couple rooms with jacuzzis and spa baths built in, so couples can have special days as well. ;)

After my heavenly Mario Badescu facial, I was being nosy looking around at the display of products. I found out that Mario Badescu not only makes an extensive skin care line, but also makes a bodycare line and a men’s skin care line as well.

I was really interested in the body care line, so they gave me a trial size of the A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap; and I’m really glad they did – I quite like it! Probably the best thing I like about it is the smell – it reminds me of those standard hotel body washes I used to use (and steal for home) from all those hotel visits. Brings back some memories. … Is that a tear coming on?

Just kidding – though the scent drew me in initially, there are many other benefits to this body wash – it has AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), so those with problem skin might find this helpful. The ingredients  (papaya, grapefruit, Ginseng, oat protein extracts) help exfoliate dead skin cells and cleanse the skin, while leaving it soft and smooth. Best of all; no soapy, filmy residue that I normally hate from body washes.

Oh, and if that’s not enough – it’s one of Martha’s Stewart’s must haves.

Does anybody use Mario Badescu body products? And am I the only one who loves the smell of the hotel soaps? I can’t be the only one! :P

As far as aging goes – I’m sure the main concern for everyone is their face, but as they say, hands do show your age very well.

Renowned dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi has seen it happen a million times: women who have never noticed their hands before find themselves with bulging veins and dark spots that ages them quite a bit.

If aging hands is a concern of yours, fortunately, both preventative and corrective measures can be taken to treat and protect the delicate skin of hands:

  • Carry an SPF lotion for hands at all times. “UVA rays, which cause skin aging, penetrate the windshield as you drive and reach the dermis and subcutaneous tissue,” Dr. Obagi reveals. Apply it to your hands and wrists.

  • Use products with retinol. “If you want to be smart about renewing your hands, treat them with a product with a high concentration of retinol,” Dr. Obagi recommends. “I created ZO Skin Health Oraser Overnight Hand Recovery to infuse skin with collagen-stimulating, spot-lightening retinol to restore hands as you sleep.”

  • Use an at home exfoliation treatment. “Dissolve dead skin cells and polish the surface, uncovering radiant, healthy hands,” Dr. Obagi explains.

Pretty simple, no?

“Women are attuned to every fine line that appears on their faces, but don’t give their hands the same attention,” Dr. Obagi explains. “Because hands are especially vulnerable to UV exposure and have very little fat layer to conceal veins, the signs of aging they monitor closely on their complexions—wrinkles, creases, and sun spots—tend to be exaggerated on the hands without proper care.”

Do you do anything to take care of your hands? I’ll need to get a hand cream with SPF pronto!

Not to be negative so early on in 2009, but I’m pretty sure there will be something that will stress you out this year!

Since my friends and I are going back to school after a long, wonderful holiday (sigh!), we are all starting to feel the pressure, so I decided to write a list of beauty ways you can relax.

All my ideas on this list are probaby much better without any music, cellphones, or any other distractions:

  • Get a professional facial. I can’t think of anything better! You literally do nothing and have the best time.
  • Or, make your own facial. Apply a nice face mask and sit down in a comfortable environment and just relax for 20 minutes.
  • Get a nice massage. If you dare, try a snake massage too!
  • Manicure and pedicure sessions – try doing it yourself too, it is very peaceful and calming.
  • Sit by the pool/beach and just close your eyes. But don’t you dare forget your sunscreen!
  • A Bubble bath. Load up on the sweetest bubble baths you have and just enjoy.
  • Pamper your hair. Apply a deep conditioning treatment.
  • Look through my Bath & Body posts to see what else you can pamper yourself with!

A personal favorite of mine is to switch off my cellphone or hide it under my bed (I have a love/hate relationship with it, the poor thing!) and just read something nice or look at old photographs.

What do you do to relax? Feel free to add your own tips in the comments – we can all help each other! :-) (And how good does that photo look, by the way?!)

Oh boy. Do I love this expensive hand cream! I always ignored the rage over Elizabeth Arden’s famous Eight Hour Cream, because I always thought it was something that only more mature ladies would benefit from.

How wrong I was!

This little tube is absolutely fantastic. It should go on my Best Beauty Finds of 2008, except I only discovered it the other day.

The perfect companion to our original classic. This fast-absorbing gel cream for the hands moisturizes for up to eight hours.

The formula is thick, extremely moisturizing and smells heavenly. So far I can’t see anything wrong with it. While it’s not ridiculously priced, it is quite a small tube for it’s price. I need to somehow be able to afford it and stock up!

Any thoughts on Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream?

Snake Massages?

November 3, 2008

in Bath, Body & Spa

eBeautyDaily wrote a post asking, Would You Try a Snake Massage?. Ada Barak offers this service at Barak’s snake spa in Talmei Elazar.

Barack claims she discovered snakes’ therapeutic value after letting people hold them – saying they helped people feel better and relax. So now she uses a combination of big snakes for deep massage and little snakes for light massage. So, what do you think? Would you try a snake massage?

My answer is over my dead body. I would be paralyzed with fear; snakes are definitely number one on my list of fears (the second would be lizards)!

…Looking at those photos make me so uncomfortable! And I thought that whole fish-nibbling-dead-foot-skin spas were weird.

What’s the weirdest spa treatment you’ve ever tried/heard of? Would you want a snake massage?
